Remember me? I’m the one who wrote last week saying that I found out my boyfriend was getting my ring made? Well… all of you wrote the sweetest and kindest words of advice and you were all right- even if you know its going to happen, it STILL can’t prepare you for the moment it happens!
Yesterday was my 28th birthday and because my boyfriend was going out of town for the weekend, he wanted to take me out for a special bday dinner on Wednesday night to celebrate. I really didn’t think anything of it, but when I woke up on Wednesday morning, I just felt like it was going to happen. I can’t explain it, but I just knew.
He got home from work before me and when I walked in he gave me the cutest/goofiest smile ever. It was his only moment of nervousness the entire evening. He took me ice skating at the Frog Pond in Boston Common and then after was planning to take me to a "surprise" location. We got in the cab and he directed the driver to take us to the Prudential Center. I was so excited because I’ve been bugging him to take me to the Top of the Hub for dinner. But instead of dinner, he took me to the observation deck on the 50th floor which gives you a 360 degree view of the beautiful city. Since it was a Wednesday night, no one was there except for the girl at the ticket counter so it was perfect. I still wasn’t sure but then he asked if there was a coat check and I knew! I wasn’t nervous… just so excited and amazed that it was actually here.
When we entered, the girl asked if we wanted an audio tour of the history of Boston… basically you walk around to the different points on the observation deck and learn about all the historical neighborhoods ect. My boyfriend declined and when we went over to the window, he pulled out his IPOD and surprised me with our OWN audio tour… he had made a tour of our relationship! He narrated all the significant moments together… where we met, had our first date, different neighborhoods we lived in, etc- and the amazing thing was you could see every single thing from the observation deck!!!
Between each place, the recording instructed me to press pause and he’d take me to the next view point. On the last one, he took me to one of those big binocular/view-finder things… it instructed me to stare at the shining light and how it was the "most significant moment in our relationship". I got so mad because I couldn’t see what it was telling me about and I even yelled that I couldn’t see it! The recording then told me it was probably easier to just turn around to see it but please try not to cry… I turned around- and he was on one knee holding the ring.
It was an amazing experience and I remember every single moment. I made sure to take it all in and cherish every second. His speech was incredible, he cried but he wasn’t nervous at all. I’ll never forget it.
We headed to dinner in the North End for some Italian food and I walked in and he arranged for all of our Boston friends to join us! They thought they were there to surprise me for my birthday and none of them knew we were getting engaged… so the surprise was on them! It was perfect. He then surprised me on my birthday morning (yesterday) with a plane ticket to fly back to Michigan with him and go see my mom and sister for the weekend!
Just thought I’d share my story and thank everyone again for the kind words. I’m still in shock but I’m so incredibly happy to have found him… he’s amazing!
