Asking him would be the easiest way to figure this out. Just say, “Hey, so I’ve been thinking about our talk last night, and I’m wondering what you think about our future.”

Ummmm…what?  I’m guessing you told him you are looking to get engaged?  Did you ask him how he feels?  Did you ASK him to elaborate on his “woah”?  Did you CONTINUE your conversation with him after that?  If you have been literally speculating on your guy saying “woah” without talking to him to figure out exactly what he means by that, you aren’t ready for marriage.  In marriage you need to have good solid communication.  Until you have that don’t get married.

In my world, “wooh” means yes, “woah” means no. But… what did he say after that? Where did the conversation go from there?

It sounds like you took him by surprise. I think you just need to talk to him. A year isn’t really that long, so it’s possible it was something he hadn’t even thought about it yet.

Was this over text? Otherwise I think you should be able to read him from tone, body language, context, etc.

This is why texting about important emotional stuff is SUCH a bad idea.

I think woah = slow down, like with a horse :/

My SO says “woah” sometimes when he thinks I’m getting ahead of myself, for e.g. if I say let’s go on another holiday again soon or let’s try and get a bigger place.. so maybe your SO is saying it in the same way and he thinks it’s too fast?

After many years in my teen and 20’s and THOUSANDS of hours of analyzing “what did he mean”, in my expereience it means…I have no F-en idea. I’m not him. None of us on the internet are him.

If this is the guy you want to take things to the next level with, you have to be able to have the difficult conversations. If you can’t have the difficult conversations, this is not the guy you want to go to the next level with.

With a horse, Whoa means “stop”!.

In your case, asking your bf is the only way to know for sure what he meant.

I don’t understand how your next immediate reaction to him saying “woah” was not “what do you mean, woah?” What DID you do/say?

To me it means “slow your roll”.
