You can get beautiful fluid non-pave settings for under $1,000. Or you can go full-on custom blingy pave/halo for more like $5,000-$6,000. There is a large range!

yay how exciting!!!

in terms of learning about diamonds and getting an idea of finger coverage by carat weight/diamond shape/finger size check out http://www.diamdb.com

i recommend http://www.rarecarat.com for choosing the diamond you want once you have an idea of what shape/cut/color/clarity/carat weight you want.

it lets you search diamonds from a bunch of online sellers like bluenile/james allen/adiamor/yadav/diamonds direct/etc. all at once. saves loads of time. i just got my anniversary ring using rarecarat to find my diamond (purchased from adiamor).

If you aren’t dead-set on getting at lest 1 carat, consider .8 or .9 carat diamonds, because the price really jumps up once you hit 1 carat.
