- Wedding: January 2012
Over Labor Day weekend, Boyfriend or Best Friend and I flew up to Ohio to briefly see my parents, and then we drove to Pennsylvania for a friend’s wedding, and then we drove back to Ohio and spent another day there with my family before we came home. This was the last time we were going to see my parents in the near future (we just don’t have the money to buy any more plane tickets for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas).
Anyway, on Monday, we decided to go to the Ohio Renaissance Festival for the day. My uncle was in town, too. We took two cars because my uncle planned to drive Boyfriend or Best Friend and I to the airport and then go home after we left. My dad recently bought a new sports car that Boyfriend or Best Friend is totally in love with, so my dad invited him to take his car for one last drive while my mom, my uncle, and I all rode in my uncle’s car.
It was about a thirty-minute-long drive, and apparently Boyfriend or Best Friend was talking nonstop the whole time, which surprised my dad, since he always thought Boyfriend or Best Friend was kind of quiet. Finally, when they were less than a mile from the festival, Boyfriend or Best Friend just blurted out that he wanted my dad’s permission to marry me. My dad said that Boyfriend or Best Friend didn’t need his permission, but that he would be honored to have Boyfriend or Best Friend as his son-in-law. At that point, they were already parking, and that was about it. My dad thought it was pretty hilariously awkward, but he thinks Boyfriend or Best Friend was just nervous.
Boyfriend or Best Friend still hasn’t actually told me any of this; I only know because my mom mentioned it to me last week (and then was really embarassed when she realized I still didn’t know). I’m just so excited, though.
I am kind of confused because he’s recently been spending money left and right, even though he doesn’t have a lot, and so the money that’s gone toward new hockey gear and a new pair of boots and other things is what I thought he was going to use for my ring. However, he’s also mentioned the “significant expenses” he’ll have in the near future with a wink and a knowing smile, so I don’t know where that money is going to come from.
I’m not too worried about it, though, because HE ASKED MY DAD! He’s going to pop the question soon, I just know it!
