Hi Bees!
I know I still need to make an introduction post, but I need to wait until I get home to load the 1,000 photos I took as well as the proposal pictures and I really wanted to get some insight.
I’ve been a lurker for years and now I’m engaged! Here’s the thing. My sweet, wonderful Fiance ordered me a platinum Tacori setting online, but really liked the idea of seeing the diamond before buying it and was lured in by Jared’s insurance and replacement policy, so he bought the diamond from them and had them mount it in the Tacori setting.
Here’s the problem: They would only honor the insurance if they set it with their own head. So they chopped the Tacori head off my setting and replaced it with their own. Let’s just say the work they did would not measure up to Tacori’s standards. If you look close you can see it’s just sort of sloppily welded on there.
Not to mention when we took it to be resized the Tacori stamp was almost completely removed, and they conveniently “forgot” to give him back the platinum that they removed (original Tacori head and the sliver from resizing) then claimed that it was never indicated that he wanted it back on the work order and if it isn’t specified they just keep it. He said they told him they would return it with the ring, and it was not presented as a choice he needed to make nor specify, that they would simply give it back to him. This is a substantial head, that’s a lot of platinum and they charged him a hefty price to Frankenstein my ring, the least they could do is return the platinum.
I know no one can see it but me, and quite honestly, it doesn’t matter, but for some reason it makes me a little sad.
This is a handmade piece of art. A little respect, Jared? Since he bought the protection plan I now have to take it to them every 6 months for tightening and inspection. I’ll be making an appointment and waiting while they do it. These guys don’t seem very trustworthy.
Anyone else’s well-meaning fiance fall for this one?
Photos below, I tried to get good ones but all I have is my phone now.

I never would have let jared do that. I would have bought the tacori from an authorized dealer and picked a tone from their stock or had them bring the stone in before setting. The company that made my ring could not insure the stone we sent because what looked like a feather ended up being a fracture and my setting was too high pressure. We picked a stone from their stock which they over nighted cross country to us for inspection before setting. We had them hold 2 others to ship out if this one wasnt to my liking. If I were you I’d seriously look into legal ramifications with jared, but since you let them tamper with the setting you will get no remorse from tacori. I believe Tacori is very well known for taking care of their rings, but by allowing jared to do this you’ve breached their service contract which jared probably knew as well.

Oh my God. Did your fiance realize that letting a non tacori jeweler work on your ring, it voids your tacori warranty? I don’t know what you can do, and I don’t think it looks bad at all, but I’d be freaking out a bit too.

π don’t know what to say but that sounds like a bummer! also every 6 mos is kind of ridiculous, my friend has one of those plans with Kay and she only has to go once per year.

@dewingedpixie: +1. this is exactly what we did.
i have a tacori, bad idea. that just voided your tacori warranty, so unless jared cops and fixes everything they’ve done so far, you might be boned. π we actually didn’t go to jared because we had heard too many stories about their shoddy work in general, then when Fiance decided we wanted Tacori he couldn’t go there anyway.
good luck!

Omg, there was no point in getting a Tacori if your Fiance was going to take it to Jared and agree to have the head replaced completely. I don’t understand why he couldn’t have bought the diamond from Jared and then taken it to a Tacori authorized dealer to have it put in the setting. And you would have been able to have your ring cleaned and maintained by the Tacori dealer for free. I cry for your Tacori too. π

Omg!!! I’m sure he didn’t know any different, but that is a huge deal with Tacori rings! i have read horror stories about jewelers doing terrible work on tacori rings, they just can’t duplicate the craftsmanship. Huge bummer! At least you aren’t too upset about it, that’s all that matters. I would have been devastated!!!!

I wonder if you can send it to tacori to have the head rebuilt? It may cost you out of pocket but at least it will be restored.

Darling Husband shopped for my engagement ring at Jared’s, and actually walked out of the appointment because it was so ridiculous. He told me the story and we still crack jokes about how bad they were.
I’m sorry they messed up your ring!
