- Wedding: July 2011
I am a self-proclaimed control freak!!! Fiancé (eee!) and I have been in the process of designing a custom ring, but it is slow going seeing how we are working with my parents’ jeweler in one state and I live in another state 7 hours away. We have designed a stunning 1.20 slate blue/grey cushion cut sapphire ring. We are picking it up when we move back home in September.
Needlesstosay there was a fair bit of fretting on my part. I have been bit by the wedding bug and gosh darn it, I just wanted to be engaged already!! Fiancé, on the other hand, has been fretting that it will be impossible to surprise me, because once we have the ring, I will expect it at every turn. And he knows I am not above searching the entire house to locate the ring. I poke holes in Christmas presents under the tree if left unattended!
We were laying in bed, forehead to forehead tangled up in cuddles (in a PG fashion) Monday night, catching up and talking about our days when he said “Let’s get married!”. This isn’t the first time one of us mentioned this in passing. So I informed him, that when the time comes, I believe it is supposed to be a question not a statement. Pause. “Will you marry me?”. Pause. “Seriously?!” “Yes, seriously, will you marry me?” “Yes, yes. A million times yes.”
No ring, just us and it was perfect. Oh, and our damned puppy running up and down the bed trying to insert himself into our moment! It was a total surprise!
I was content without the ring, knowing my ring is coming in September, although I did slightly dread telling people and then having nothing shiny to tell them, but I reassured myself that the people that matter would understand. I think it bothered him more than me, worried people would think he was cheap. Wednesday rolls around and he comes home from work with a present. OH GOODIE PRESENT! He hugged me and again asked “will you marry me? you know this means forever, right?”. And then he hands me a temporary ring he found at a local antique store. It is a 1/3 carat diamond with a diamond chip on either side surrounded in mill grain in what I describe as a bow tie pattern.
Even though I have another ring coming, I am falling in love with my “temp” ring. It is tiny in comparison to the other e-rings I see at work, but it is unique and really lovely. Despite how much he professed he had no taste, I am impressed!
After much WB stalking, I was excited to share my own story!
