vtgbee:  Any number of things could have happened but most likely the ring wasn’t ready. Maybe he custom ordered it. Maybe it arrived damaged. Maybe the stone popped out. Maybe it wasn’t what he expected.

Of maybe whatever time/place he had planned to do it had something go wrong and he could’t figure out a backup plan.

It’ll happen. Try not to stress out about it.

This is why you should never expect anything because it can lead to a huge let down.

And how are you certain it was the plan?  Maybe he was just trying to do something nice for your birthday without any thought to proposing.

He probably was never planning on actually proposing on your birthday. Maybe he just wanted your birthday to be really special night. If he had a proposed to you it would’ve taken the attention away from your birthday and  placed it on your engagement and he probably felt that would’ve been a little selfish of him. So if I were you I would just hang tight I’m sure it’s coming up soon and it’ll be on a day when you’re least expecting it.

My FH did this to me about 5 times. He would plan elaborate things, or romantic outings after telling people he knew would leak info to me. He finally succeeded in making me give up (the boy who cried wolf syndrome) then he proposed on Easter sunday when I was not expecting it at all. We were all by ourselves on a weekend getaway walking around DC. We’d had so many other moments that seemed like a better fit…but he wanted it to be a complete surprise…it was. Hopefully your guy is doing the same…

Your sister may have assumed the same thing you did and that is why she had a confused look on her face.

I ruined many birthdays, holidays, and vacations waiting for a ring.  We were dating for 6 1/2 years before the proposal.  Looking back, I was such an ass!  Hindsight is 20/20 I just really wish I would have not let my emotions take control.  I ruined an entire night in beautiful Riviera Maya because I just blew up over something I knew would come eventually anyway.

He ended up proposing when I got home from work on April Fool’s Day in our bedroom.  It was funny and spontaneous.  He had planned to propose in May when I got my Master’s degree.  He picked up the ring on April 1st and he just couldn’t wait.  So he did it.

It’ll happen.. But just let it happen.. once it happens you’ll look around and realize that no too much is different.

My Fi did this, without even thinking. He sprung a romantic weekend away at a hotel on me, like hours before. I thought for CERTAIN it was going to happen. We were even walking down the street back to our hotel and he stopped. Legit thought my heart was going to burst, turns out he was just tying his shoe.

He did ask me though, about 4 weeks later. Give it time, boys have to muster up a lot of confidence to propose!
