Having a total “duh” moment this morning. Anyone with health insurane knowledge want to give me some insight? Go figure I’d be sick on a Saturday when the offices aren’t open.
I’m pretty sure I have strep, I’m dying, and white spots in my throat. I’m just sitting here counting down the minutes until the doctors office opens.
So anyway, I have my own health insurance policy through BCBS. I’ve had it for a couple of years. I’m planning on cancelling it, because Darling Husband and i just got married, and I was added on his through his work, effective our wedding date. I know I’m covered, but his insurance card only has his name on it. I told his office that I was changing my name, so I’m assuming they held off on sending me one until my name change.
Can I take his insurance card to the doctor today even though my name isn’t on it? I can always take mine, I just figure when I call this week to cancel mine it could be an issue if they haven’t processed my trip to the doctor yet.

My insurance card has my stepdad’s name on it. (So… not my last name, or my first name…). But it still works for me. I don’t know how it would work for marriage, but there’s my 2cents.

We get sent 2 cards by DH’s insurance, but they both have his name on it.

It should be fine. The doctor’s office will usually contact the insurance office to verify your exact coverage anyway.

as long as you are on the policy it shouldnt matter. Does it say 2 adults? My husband is sick and we have been going dr to dr and everytime we give them the insurance with my name on it they look at us funny i say we are married i have not changed my name yet. I am starting to get annoyed. I plan on changing my name but when i went to the ss office they were closed then i tried to go one day and there was a 3 hour wait. now its my goal to change my name by the end of this month

My insurance card doesn’t have my name on it, just my husbands. It should work fine. Hope you feel better soon!

We have one card for the entire family – so when I take my daughter, the card has my name.
They will verify the insurance, usually right then in the office before you are seen… so it shouldn’t be an issue.
He should have online access where you can login and print out everyone who is “covered” on the policy.
