I am recently married and recently unemployed.
My husbands health insurance will cover both him and I for $500 a month.
As I said, I am unemployed so I feel that this is quite a bit for us considering my pay just decreased to what the state will give me for unemployment.
I am, of course, actively looking for a new job, but I need an insurance for the time being.
I have been researching different options but it seems that all individual plans have a waiting period for maternity insurance. We are not trying, or planning to try for a year or so, but I worry about the accidental pregnancy. If I accidentally get pregnant, I will just be shit out of luck, Right?
Should I just go ahead with my husbands insurnace for $500 a month or should i get an individual insurance that doesnt cover maternity for 365 days for only $150 a month?
Lets say I go with the latter of the two above options – would I be covered under any state benefits or are there any other options for me without maternity insurance?
I have been reading others similar posts but I just cant seem to find my direct answer.
Thanks for your help!
P.S. I live in Illinois, if anyone has state specific advice.
