LadyBear : our fridge doesn’t have an ice maker and it still makes a banging noise often. It also occasionally makes a groaning noise. When we first got married, my hubby came to check on me in the toilet because he heard the groaning fridge and mistakenly thought I was having ‘problems’ in the bathroom department. 😂
OP its most probably the house settling especially if your house is on stumps and is an older property. Pipes make banging noises when old too. It could also be wildlife/cats/possums/mice/birds nesting in the roof space or walls…or in the case of my old aunty it was a burglar in her roof cavity, she thought it was a cat and used a broom to tap her ceiling to chase out the cat. She chased it to the window, looked out and saw a man emerge from her roof outside. He had lifted the tiles to enter her roof space to most probably burgle her home. In your case I’m sure its not a thief or a ghost! 😉

Strange noises happened in my MIL’s house as well, it turned out a raccoon had taken residence in her attic!

Daisy_Mae : Okay, okay.
What about secret rooms the owners don’t know about? Is that fair game?

lauralaura123 : It could really be anything from pipes to wildlife to just wind passing through an attic space. Our home doesn’t have an attic but I still heard what sounded like footsteps in the ceiling. My Fiance finally found the culprit this past summer when he set a trap on our roof with some kitty food in it. We had an entire family of flying squirrels living in the 9″ gap between our ceiling and roof and man those little guys are noisy!
