The meow is to catch your eye. Also, meowing is fun. *nods*
I knew I wanted to make fan programs from the get go as my wedding is late Aug and there will be a number of older people there. When I saw these heart shaped ones on Piterest, I was sold!
<- Pinterest one
So I got to work, found some lovely handles, painted them. Made a template, printed a bunch out and BAM! I give you super awesome Program fans!
I wanted to use a mix match of pinks, as I am a rather eclectic bee!
My FMIL helped me by cutting out all the hearts and glueing them together. She finally got them back to me last night so I could start adding the handles! yay!
Theeeeeeennnnnnnnn she decided to try and be extra helpful by making a “box” to display them in.
I’m so glad I wasn’t there when she handed FI the box. I don’t think I could have kept my face straight.
It’s the ugliest box!!!!!! It’s a lid for a cardboard box with construction paper loosly tucked around it.
There’s no way I’m displaying that at my elegant garden wedding! Sometimes I think that FMIL mistakes my crafty inclinations and hobbies with elementary level arts and crafts. Not knocking them, it’s where i started. But i thought that she understood my vision for the ceremony and clearly she doesn’t if she thinks this is what I want sitting on the table when people first walk in. I was envisioning some sort of lovely white wicker basket to display them in.
At least it was good for a bit of a laugh. Everytime I looked at the box last night i couldn’t help but chuckle.
How about you guys, any funny stories about Mum’s trying to help with crafts in a most un-helpful way?

I haven’t done anything for my wedding yet, but I just wanted to tell you that those fans are adorable.
If I were you, I’d probably say something baout how while the box is very appreciated, you have a vision of a white basket- having the pink box might be just a bit too much pink, and you want the fans to really stand out. Just a thought!

Yes, I’ll say something like that for sure. I’m quite practiced at it by now as she’s tried to pass on all kinds of things to me through out this wedding planning process. I’ve already caved on letting her re-use these white bows from her other daughters wedding a few years ago and the basker for the flower girl, but this? Yah no.

Or tell her that you’d already picked up a box, but you appreciate the time and effort she put into it.

@MrsVandykins: Excuse me miss…but I NEED to know where you got those program fan handles at…

@MrsVandykins: Sorry – I didn’t read your whole post.
My mom made birdhouses – I have a shabby/chic/rustic/farm wedding. No birds. This was after I told her no butterflies and no fairies. So she thought birdhouses was ‘rustic’. For some reason I didn’t immediately disagree and no she has made SEVEN bidhourses – all different shapes and decorated in all different ways – like one is a pink glittery castle and another is covered in peacock feathers…
I said ‘Mom, I don’t think those quite go with the rest of the theme’. To which she replied ‘No one will barely even be able to see them – they are just to fill space…’

@suburbian: Hello! That’s too funny! I’m trying to envision a pink sparkly bird house next to a peacock one and i’m just cracking up! Oh mothers… they’re so crazy. I really hope you post pics of them on day! I’m going to have to periodically stock you to see!
I got the fan handles here:
$6 for a pack of 25, so a prettty good deal! it’s a canadian site, but if you google eco wooden handles for fans you’ll see them all over the place! I love the little heart cut out in the bottom! Too cute!!!
