@pittgirl4:  My aunt, who is a heartburn pill popper of OTC meds (if that makes sense) says that apple sauce takes care of hers.

I was skeptical, but I got heartburn early in my pregnancy, bought some apple sauce in the on the go pouches and took one when I was feeling heart burn, and it would either immediately take care of it OR bring down the symptoms enough where it was manageable. Worth a try if you want something a bit more “natural.”

I’ve been suffering from really bad heartburn so I’d love to know if anyone else has tips for dealing with it. Earlier in my pregnancy, Tums and/or a glass of milk would help me but the further along I get, the worse my heartburn is. First, the doctor told me to take Zantac twice a day and Gaviscon at bed time. When I lay down at night I can’t stop coughing because of the acid in my throat (so gross!) so I take Gaviscon before I lay down to coat my throat.

Yesterday he switched me from Zantac to a different medication called Tecta and so far that’s not working. It might take a couple days for the pill to start working though so I’ll stick it out and hope for the best. I’m beginning to think the only cure for acid reflux is giving birth! πŸ˜›

@pittgirl4:  Please don’t take any medication without checking with your doctor first. The medications may very well be safe for you, but without knowing if you are on any other medications or have any other medical conditions, no responsible person would recommend medications, even over the counter medications. The internet is a lousy place to get medical advice.

@pittgirl4:  I was going to say apples always help mine, so definitely try the applesauce pouches!

I agree with talking to your doctor. I tried everything, and nothing worked, so my ob told me try Pepcid. That didn’t work, so I started Prilosec. It has been wonderful. I didn’t want to take a medication, but I was miserable. I’m so glad my ob told me to take it.

Prilosec OTC has helped me so much with my heartburn!!! I haven’t had to eat a Tums since I started it.  Def clear it with your doctor, but my OB was just fine with me taking it.

I like a glass of milk or a tablespoon of vinegar!

Milk always works for me. Alka seltzer too — If you buy the plain stuff it’s just baking soda.
