Since I got engaged, my dad has “teasingly” (I say that in quotes because I do think he’s partly serious) stated that he’d rather I elope than have a wedding. We believe he says this because the idea of me getting married is too emotional for him, and it makes him want to cry, which he doesn’t like to do.
This weekend, my dad told me that when I was born, he made a promise to me. I asked him what that promise was, and he said “to always take care of you.” And I said “and you always have.”
Cue “awwws” and tears 😉
We’re both going to sob during our daddy/daughter dance. It’s true.
Anyone have similar stories to share?

@inky_1: My story isn’t nearly as cute, but it still makes people cry.
My mother had been afflicted with a terrible illness for four years that no one could figure out, finally, I took her to the Mayo Clinic in AZ where they figured out what it was, but she was so weak, I literally carried her off the plane. Her treatment was open chest surgery, radiation therapy and plasma transfers…all I could do was support her through the first two and be her plasma cow through the latter, it was exhausting, painful and time consuming, but worth it…as she got to the end of her treatments, she was talking about the tattoos they had put on her body to mark where they would hit her with radiation, saying they’d never go away, and it would always be a painful reminder of what happened….so I had the same marks put on my body, in the same places just like she has, and when we got home after her last one I showed her and said, “No pain, only pride” She cried, and I cried, and everyone she tells, which was a lot of people cries, and she loves what I said so much she’s going to pay to have what I said tatooed on the inside of my arm, which is scarred from donating plasma to her every three days.
