We are having a Hanukkah party for our friends in December and I’m trying to figure out what to make. I wanted it to be more appetizer style so I will be making potato latke’s (potato pancakes). These and a few other “regulars”: chips, veggies, desserts, etc. would be sufficient for a late night party, but because we are doing it around dinner time, I feel like I need more of dinner-ish food… especially because husband’s friends are BIG eaters.

How about making sliders or a nacho bar keeping the nacho cheese hot in a crockpot?
Since its at dinner you will need some more heavy items for big eaters.
As for other finger foods you could also do blue cheese stuffed baked figs
Or a variety of crustinis such as cream cheese, fig and prosciutto or brie and cranberry sauce, artichoke dip spread
also meatballs make good finger foods. you could do a buffalo and blue cheese style one.
As for more holiday specific appropriate foods.
lamb kebabs or brisket sliders, leek fritters, chicken salad with raisins and pine nuts

Matzo ball soup is very easy to make. I buy the Manischewitz mix and get 5 or 6 servings out of it.

@ThreeMeers:oo I think sliders could work!
@shaynapunim: as much as i love matzo ball soup, i don’t think it would work for a small party. everyone will just be eating on the couch, etc. and won’t have a formal table for everyone to sit at. soup is too difficult for that but thanks for the suggestion!
any other suggestions?
