Offbeatwifey2be:  It is a beautiful ring! What a treasure to have an heirloom piece 🙂 If you really want to know what stone/metal it is, you should probably go to an independent jewler who can test for gold and is knowledgable about gems, not some chain jewelry store where the sales associates aren’t as knowledeable.

If it is a white sapphire, they are very easy to care for! They are 9 on the hardness scale (after a diamond) so you don’t have to worry too much about cracking/chipping it. All you really have to do it clean it, as you would a regular ring. Once you find out what kind of gem/stone it is, they should be able to better tell you how to care for it.

Regardless of what it is, again, it’s a beautiful ring!

Offbeatwifey2be:  I also have an heirloom ring. My advice would be to have it apprasied which will help you to determin specifics. Also once it is appraised you can have it insured. Of course with family rings the sentimental value greatly outweighs the monetary value but in the event it is lost or damaged you will be covered and able to replace it. It is a beautiful ring. I hope you can figure out some of the history!
