I have about 10 pounds to go before I get to my goal weight so I still have many months ahead of me of loss and then hopefully a lifetime of maintanence. I have been on a yoyo weight roller coaster for about the last 10 years or so, it would be nice for me to steady out at a lower weight.
I have lost 16 pounds since I resolved to do so in late December of last year when had to go shopping for pants a size heavier than my “fat” pants size and found I weighed 180 pounds. I have had road blocks along the way, a hurt hip that prevented me for working out for a few months and now Henoch Schonlein Purpura which has cut into my being able to run once again or to do Barre for the time being.
I have been using a number of tools to lose weight, I think the tool I have used the longest is fatsecret and the paper food diary along with healthy eating tips given to me by a nutrionist when I was still in college. Those two together were really effective.
Now a days I still use those but I have also joined myfitnesspal, participate in the beegist loser thread, take part in challenges that my gym has to offer (like today you should walk a mile etc etc), print out the gym calender to mark off days I have worked out, and use some books that I do exercises out of and I was taking advantage of a few Barre classes til the HSP kicked in.
I am also scouring the net for new recipes and food ideas so I can stick to my healthy eating strategy. When I am feeling discouraged I look for motivational fitness posters online and post them to my facebook wall. I also sometimes re-read this graphic novel/comic book that I bought that is entitled so you need to lose 15 pounds. It really makes me laugh and helps me through the plateaus.
What tools and tips have you used on your weight loss journeys?

@HisNightOwl2014: Good morning to you too, I guess its 6AM out there on my beloved East Coast! It’s 4AM here in my new home out West lol. I just haven’t been sleeping well lately so I am still awake. I’m sorry dress shopping didn’t go well for you, I know how disappointing it can be to not feel good in the clothes you wear. 🙁
Hopefully you will find something that works for you. Have you tried my fitness pal? It has worked for a lot of bees.

I used MyFitnessPal – using a food journal statistically helps you lose more weight (you feel guilty having to write down eating all the bad stuff), and the motivation on that site is actually amazing. People are so, so supportive and really help get your bum to the gym!

I have been taking duromine (curb the hunger-and supervised by my Dr) along with a carb free & caffeine free diet and I have lost 20 kg…and now the more I lose the more active I am becoming.
I have now started swimming and horse riding, which I haven’t done in years because of my weight. I still have another 30kg to lose.

I am currently doing a My Fitness Pal challenge with my husband and two of our friends. It’s been really motivating to see everyone checking in! Their tools do make it really, really easy to track your foods. You can even type in your recipes and it will add that to your daily totals.
I also did Weight Watchers, for a similar reason: it made me accountable. I would have to weigh in each week. I loved having bonus points for throughout the week. That way, if I did have a “bad day”, I didn’t feel so bad if I still had those extra points.

Right now I’m doing Weight Watchers online, and I’ve lost over 25 lbs. I have about a year to lose more weight before the wedding, so I plan on sticking with the program. There is no way I’m going to be my goal weight before the wedding, but I think I can get abot 3/4 of the way there!

The food diary has been the best thing for me. Keeps me from having a bite of something or just one piece of DH’s candy (he’s an untreated chocoholic, normal weight, of course). I know I will have to write it down and that stops me.
I like to excersize so that’s never been an issue. But, I have severe back problems, so I am always experimenting. I love Zumba, but it put my spine into flare up mode for weeks, very painful.
I also only drink water or green tea, occasionally iced tea. No alcohol–huge source of empty calories and not good with my pain meds. And no diet sodas.
I learned the evils of diet soda from a friend who had bariatric surgery. Her doctor told her that diet soda stretches the stomach. Not good.
I’ve dropped 50 lbs this way. The first 20 came right off when I quit the alcohol. And I am much older than most of you Bees.

my fitness pal has been really helpful. You could also start a thread asking other bees to contribute their favorite healthy recipes and the amount of calories per serving, etc.
