I have a party I’m invited to, I love a dress that is flowy and white, it’s really pretty. Can I wear that … the party is after Easter but before Memorial Day. I didn’t know that rule existed still, I thought it was just shoes? lol

As long as it’s not an engagement or wedding party where someone else is the bride, I think it’s fine! But then again I live in sunny California so I wear pastels, tropical colors, and white all year round. 😛

I live in MO, and if i feel like wearing my white sundress with black tights, I DO! I agree–i wouldn’t wear it to an event with a bride around. I always feel like the bride-to-be should have the option to wear white at all of her events. But I think you’re fine. Maybe throw a pastel belt around it or sweater if you think you’d feel better in that. I really don’t think anyone follows that white rule anymore….except maybe my 80 year old fashionista grandmother who only wears designer clothes

I don’t follow it, if it is 🙂

I think it’s an outdated "rule". It’s officially spring, so wear whatever you want!

If you’re in the South, it’s still a rule, but it’s between Easter and Labor Day. Also, it’s really only a rule if you decide to follow it.

I agree with kylydia. In the South, yeah people still follow it somewhat. But I’ve never heard Memorial Day before, I’ve always heard Easter. And pretty much no one really CARES anymore. I know I follow it, but only out of habit. It’s totally what you’re cool with.

This is one of my least favorite "rules". I have been pro-white after Labor Day since I learned the rule lol
Many fashionistas may also argue that there is such a thing as "winter white" so it is acceptable

I’ve heard it, but I don’t abide by it at all! I DEFINITELY wear white after Labor Day. All. the. time! And before both Memorial Day AND Easter!!!!
I think that its more about the fabric– I wouldn’t wear light cotton-y white pants in the middle of February in Boston, but I would wear heavier white wool pants.

I’m guilty… I follow it (cringe). I WISH I didn’t cuz I hate the rule, but I do. I just feel like people will look at me like I’m nuts if I wear white before Memorial Day. (I used to think it was Easter too but my fiance corrected me… for some reason HE also thinks I must abide by this rule!)
The only times I make an exception is if I’m anywhere warm – like I am going to Spain in mid-May and I will definitely be wearing white. Also, if I lived in Cali or FL I probably wouldn’t abide by it either, but unfortunately, I’m in Boston.
I do have a winter white coat though! Haha 🙂 Honestly you’re probably safe either way… to me this is just one of those things like brushing your teeth before bed – I just DO it, even though it wouldn’t be the end of the world not to once or twice!
