We have been engaged for just over 10 months and it is flying by. We also put it off because of school.

@bugaroo92:  I’ve done A LOT already. So far we’ve booked our venue, church, photographer/videographer, dj, flowers, limos, and I ordered my dress. So I’m done with all of the big stuff right now. Just waiting to do some more. But there’s nothing really left to do.

7/12/14 Bride here! I have been brainstorming but havent bought a single thing & nothing booked yet. Fionce unemployed for 1.5 year and then I lost my job – I was unemployed for 2 years & now we are both working again — just starting to work toweards getting out of debt, so nothing saved. We are 30+ years old, first wedding and just doing a casual outdoor wedding. The biggest expense will be the tent/chair rental. Hope not to go over $5k…

@BeeNatural:  Same date as us :).

We will be renting the tent, tables, chairs, and a dance floor. Our budget is about $10,000 but even that is tough. Photographers, DJ’s, food, booze, everything adds up so fast, even with all the DIY stuff we will see if we can keep to that budget.

Hey!  We’ve been engaged for a couple of months but still waiting until the right moment to announce it to everyone on Facebook.  As of today, only a handful of people know.

As far as planning goes, the only thing that is officially set is the church and Pre-Cana.  Our ceremony is held in the early afternoon.  I might change the time from 1:30 to 1:15 to give us enough time for post-ceremony pictures at the church.  Our reception most likely will be held at the social hall behind the church.  However, it would be great to happen at his grandmother’s backyard.  But rentals might be costly.  So instead we’ll do our rehearsal BBQ there.  We’re trying not to exceed over $10K for the reception alone.

The only major debate we’re having is photography.  Lurking at the photography board is leaving me discouraged on which photographer to choose from. Frown  While we’re willing to spend a bit for pictures, we don’t want it to cost as much as the reception itself.

@BeeRod527:  Oh i know how you feel about photography! The wedding will be 4 hrs away from the closest major city so every photographer wanted travel and accomodations. I ended up find a photographer 12 hrs away (in Alberta, the wedding will be in Saskatchewan) who isn’t going to charge travel and didn’t require us to pay accomodations (we are). She is also giving us the 2012 pricing with 2 photographers, and it includes some photos and an album. So happy we scooped up that deal. She is newer but has done about 6 weddings and has 3 or 4 more booked this year.

@REchick: wow 12 hours? Not even in Regina or Saskatoon? Well I’m glad that you got a great deal with your photographer.

that’s cool! We have about 4-5 to choose from. But the people from the board are very nitpicky about the littlest details. We like quality pics but we are not going to break our budget. I mean we’re already planning to give up video for better pics. We’re not going to spend too much money for them.

@BeeRod527:  Weird hey, she does free travel for Alberta, BC, and Sask so I figured what the heck! She is costing us $1400.00 for the 2 photographers, all day including before wedding and reception, plus an album and other prints.

I think that is smart. You definitely want nice pictures but when it comes down to it, out of everything you will have a handful you love and use for gifts or around the house, the others go to a photo album and after a year or two a person doesn’t look at them.

I am on the fence about a video. Thinking of setting up a camera to do the ceremony and that will be about it, maybe the reception speeches. I don’t know if I can justify the cost of them for a video you again watch a handful of times. I do LOVE the highlight videos some people post but its a lot of money to spend for a 5 minute video. :s need to do serious thinking about that one.

Anyone have any thoughts on videographers? Yay or Nay?

Hey girls! I am just writing to see how all of you are doing with prep? I have not yet tried on any wedding dresses (still have some weight to loose) and have been focusing all my efforts on DIY decor and shopping to collect themes items thusfar. What about all of you?! xo

Hi!!!! I’ve just joined the hive and I’m very excited to countdown to our July 2014 weddings together! Our wedding is 25th July next year! Booked lots of the big things and starting to look into DIY projects to keep me (and my mum) busy! My wedding colours are pale rose pink, pale green and white! Anyone else having those colours? Less than 52 weeks to go 🙂 ! X x

@Gatsby:  Looks like we’ll be getting married the same weekend! I love your color scheme–the pale pink and green together make me think of a beautiful garden. We’ve also got the light pink in ours, along with light grey. I was never very into pink, but the thought of carrying a bouquet of light pink roses somehow became engrained in my mind, and ended up kind of becoming the focal point of my theme. My mom is getting into town tomorrow evening, and I have my first appointment to try on dresses this Wednesday. Do you have a dress yet, or have you begun to look?
