I have not yet got mine insured (I don’t want to take it off. Stupid, eh?), but I have looked into all of this in Canada. For me, I called my home/auto insurance company and found out if they insured jewellery. They do. I required an appraisal certificate from one of a few specific reputable companies. I found a jeweller in my area that appraises under one of the company names, btu couldn’t leave it for the three days he wanted to have it. It scared the bejeesus out of me. In the end, I was going to insure my band, but with a lifetime guarentee on the diamonds and setting (including if one falls out), and a $300 band, it didn’t seem worth it.

I wouldn’t guess that your plain band would be worth much monitarily, unless there are specific characteristics to it such as hand engraving, scroll work, etc.

Btw… welcome to weddingbee!

I don’t have an answer– just wanted to suggest to the moderators that this be moved to the “ring” section? The OP might get more answers if it was in there.

hmm I haven’t but I think if you are homeowner it might be able to fall into that insurance policy. I will say that with it being a heirloom it may not be valued at what you think it’s worth might be more, might be less. Again I doubt whatever price they give you will matter as it’s grandmas ring. But this is a really good idea.
