Title says it all…. I want a song that hasn’t been done a million times, not too cheesy… and if possible, if it had a bluesy/rock vibe (my dad is big into buddy guy, muddy waters, pink floyd, david wilcox, april wine – that type of music). Oh, and not country…
So far the only songs I’ve come up with that I don’t completely hate are Lullaby by Billy Joel or When you need me by Bruce Springstein…
I think they’ve both likely been used a lot, although I’d never heard either before my search began…

Not the vibe you were looking for, but I did For My Dad by Nancy Sinatra. Never heard it used before and everyone raved about it!!!

MrsPhilly: What about She’s got a way by Billy Joel? I think that’s a nice one, it could easily be for a father. Or maybe Forever Young by Bob Dylan?

Again, not sure if it’s your style but we’re using Save the Last Dance For Me by The Drifters.

I’ve always thought about dancing to “God Only Knows” by the Beach Boys. I don’t want anything too mushy because my dad is a super emotional guy and will cry, alot lol.
If you’ve ever seen the movie “Love Actually” its the song at the end when everyone is in the airport.

Both of my daughter’s really dislike country music. They still chose country songs, for their father-daughter dances, because the lyrics were so meaningful. One danced to “I loved her first,” and the other to “In my daughter’s eyes.” The second one was a surprise; they didn’t practice, because he didn’t think he could dance (got leg braces the week before). It was very emotional.

I like What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong. I hate sap though, so things like Butterfly Kisses and I Danced with Cinderella make me slightly nauseous.

I’m debating between “Stand By Me,” “Landslide,” or the more off-beat choice, “Ripple” by the Grateful Dead. I told my dad I had a few choices, even though he said he didn’t want to choose. I wanted to pick something that really represented him first, then us as father and daughter.

MrsPhilly: I would suggest Daddy Dance With Me by Krystal Keith. not alot of people know about it so it’s definately not one of those overplayed songs and it’s sweet.
