Hi there,

Congratulations!  You’re already ahead of the game.

In my opinion, I would wait to purchase Bridesmaid or Best Man & Maid/Matron of Honor gowns.  2 years is a long time – circumstances/sizes/and your vision may change in that time.  One of your BM’s could lose or gain weight, get pregnant, etc etc etc. Plus in planning other things like flowers, decor, invitations, etc. you may find that your vision of the event changes as you progress in planning.

Anyway, that’s just my $0.02.  Whatever you decide best of luck.

Why are you paying for all the dresses?  Is it a cultural expectation or is this their gift?

Anyway, check out Target’s.  They have a great wedding site; good prices and a great return policy.  Unfortunately I don’t know if there is one in Florida so your returns will have to be by mail. Otherwise, you return them to the store.  If your bridesmaids are from other states where there are Targets they can order it themselves and get the right fit.

Two years is a long time to get dresses.  Unless everyone in the wedding party is family, your friends may change.  As someone said, someone could get pregnant or move.

You may want to find some great fabric and someone who sews and have them make the dresses if everyone lives locally.  That may take some time but you will get exactly what you are looking for in color, style, and trim.

If everyone is local, I’d check out clothing outlets in the area.  They often have great sales.  Going into a Bridesmaid or Best Man gown search with a specific style, color, design in mind can have you running in circles.  Be open to changing your mind if you see something you prefer to your original thought.  Start looking up bridesmaids gowns, better dresses in stores, and get a feel for color and sytle.  You may actually find something else you prefer.  Also, whereas you are not the one wearing the dresses, why not ask your BM’s for their help.  Let them do some searches within your parameters and see what they come up with.  Don’t take all the burden on yourself.  It’s their shoulders who will be wearing the dress.  Focus your attention to what you will look like and the dress you want for yourself.  Get some help from them for the Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses.

Gosh, I  just tried, too.  I think they discontinued it.  Sarah Jessica Parker has a clothing line and I saw her on TV and she is the one who said to check out the Target page, and I did and at that time it was there!  Actually, the white slinky dress they featured was the same dress that former John Kennedy, Jr’s wife wore to their wedding.  I did google Target wedding dress and found a picture of the dress they were selling; but not the wedding website.  Hhhmmm.  I haven’t tried but I’m wondering if there is a link from Sarah Jessica Parker’s clothing line, which I can’t remember the name.  It is reasonable priced clothing with coordinates.  Sorry, I can’t be of much more help on this.  It’s a needle in a haystack.  Try calling Target or asking an online question.  If anyone is succesful, please let us know.  I have my dress so I’m not looking anymore; but, when I was, it was there.  They even had bridesmaid dresses.  Sooo sorry.
