Where are you? I’d go with colours that you and your groom both already love – so think about what you like, and it’ll evolve from there. As for dresses – decide on a budget, and then go try a TON on.

Aims, don’t stress you’ve got time 🙂  I would suggest going out and purchasing a simple wedding planning book.  I think I paid $12 for mine and it just helped me know what sort of questions to ask vendors and provided a rough outline to the wedding planning timeline.

What sort of look are you going for and in what city/state are you planning your wedding? Without that info we can’t really help suggest venues, etc.

@Aims: These might help give you some ideas.  I pulled up some images of blue and green weddings that seemed very summer-y to me!  Check these out and see if anything strikes you!  And don’t stress – you have plenty of time!  You’re starting slightly earlier than I did last year to plan my July 2010 wedding and I had a multiple-month chunk of downtime in the middle of planning where there was nothing to do.  You aren’t in a time-crunch at all!

Googling some locations for you in/around Roanoke, VA:

Valhalla Vineyards: Don’t see any cost information on their website but this place looks very beautiful in a simple way.  http://www.valhallawines.com/weddings_receptions.html

The Woodland Place: Beautiful outdoor wedding space with a gazebo.  Also have an indoor space. http://www.thewoodlandplace.com/weddings.asp

Here’s a page that has profiles of a bunch of local couples weddings (actually – there are like 6 pages).  It shows all of their ceremony / reception location so that could give you a really good place to start looking.  I may help you with other vendor information too! http://www.weddingmapper.com/g/va/roanoke/planning/weddings

lol, and here I was thinking I was the only one from VA on here!!!!  I’m just a few hours north of you!

here’s a few sites that might help:

http://www.eventective.com/USA/Virginia/Roanoke/Wedding-Receptions.html

http://www.virginiaweddingstoday.com/virginia_wedding_receptions.php

http://www.virginiaweddings.com/wedding-services/venues.aspx

http://maps.google.com/maps?rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&oe=UTF-8&rlz=1I7GGLL_en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=roanoke+va+wedding+venues&fb=1&gl=us&hq=wedding+venues&hnear=Roanoke,+VA&view=text&ei=Ozl1TOyEKcO78gbnhoHzBg&sa=X&oi=local_group&ct=more-results&resnum=1&ved=0CCwQtQMwAA

I’ve got a few other websites that I tried using (to no avail, we finally talked to the owner at a local resort-type place and got a great deal there).

Also, try calling a wedding planner and asking how much it would cost for him/her to help find a venue.  I did that to see and was told it wouldn’t cost anything, since that’s all I needed help with.  (we’ve got dj, photographer, videographer, catering, etc already taken care of by family and friends, lol).

Roanoke’s a pretty big area.  Feel free to PM me!!! 🙂

Here’s a dress from Anthropologie that could work for a cute (and re-wearable) bridesmaid dress.  Depends on what shades of green/blue you decide.  I purchased this dress and it’s definitely as pictured: kelly green and navy.

Because you are doing it in the summer you might want a soft blue and green?

This inspiration board is nice bc it has that low key rstic feel which makes the wedding cheapper. You could use wild flowers for the centerpieces and boquets (Hydrengaies, white carnations, mums, hollyhocks etc) it would look gorgeous!

@Aims: We’re doing blue and green for our wedding because those are our favorite colors.  I (obviously) don’t think there is anything wrong with those colors in a wedding 🙂

@Aims: I see nothing wrong with green and blue as wedding colors.  I personally did not use either of those but as you can see in the pictures I posted, green and blue can look beautiful together!
