When’s the next earliest date that works for venue/photographer? I’d ask the church if they could switch the date if it’s available for one that works for all 3, can’t imagine they would refuse!

fourthnoel :  We didn’t run into this issue. We set a date in September of last year for May of this year and all the vendors we wanted were available. Would you have an issue with getting married in May on a Friday or Sunday if the date can be moved and the vendors are available? If you are not able to change the date you will have to find other vendors. Hopefully just as great.

fourthnoel :  I am willing to bet that you could switch dates with the church, especially this early, and just apply your retainer to the new date. Even if you couldn’t, I can’t imagine your retainer for the church is so much that it wouldn’t be worth just eating it for the sake of getting the other vendors you want. Personally for me, having quality vendors I wanted was super important. I’d be talking with the photographer/videographer as well as other vendors and see what they have open, then talk with the church.

Sounds like you may need to consider new dates. Most churches won’t book a wedding on a Sunday, so that may leave you with Friday/Saturday options. Changing your date with the church shouldn’t be a big deal at this point. I would ask them what other dates they are available, and see what dates your other vendors are available.

I can’t imagine a deposit on a church is more than a few hundred?? Switch the date to get the venue and photographer you want.

I second PPs — see if you can move the date with your church, and then try booking around the availability of your preferred vendors.

I felt like the most important thing to book was the venue, so once we found a venue we liked we chose our date based on the few days they still had open. We booked everything else around that, less than a year in advance in a major metro area for a June wedding, and we’ve still gotten our first choice of vendors on pretty much everything.

If you’re really set on keeping your date, though, you’ll just have to accept that having a specific date in mind will limit your options and many things will be booked up. On the plus side, sometimes having less choice is a good thing – you’ll be forced to think outside the box a little more and you won’t be picking between endless options. You say two of your top venues are gone already, but are there other top contenders you can go with?

That is crazy! Are you going with *the* top vendors in your town? We planned in just under a year and still were able to get the two vendors we knew we wanted and had our pick of other vendor’s our planner recommended as her favorite.

Also, the church might be willing to transfer your deposit to a different date. They aren’t a for-profit entity that likely has strict rules. Especially since it’s so far off and it’s clearly a popular date to get married if your other desired vendors are booked. If you talk to them, I bet they will be flexible, assuming another date is open.

fourthnoel :  Oh gotcha. Well it sounds like you booked the church for the only time you really want to get married, and you sound pretty set on it for your ceremony site. In that case, I wouldn’t switch. I’d just book everything else around that date, but accept that not everything will be available. It’s still over a year away, so I am confident you’ll be able to find an amazing venue and photographer even if they aren’t the first ones you had in mind.

fourthnoel :  we booked reception first.  Our photographer was booked but she has an associate that we’re happy with.  We started with only 9 months but not a city or anything.  I’d definitely check on switching dates but it sounds as though it might be a bit difficult.

fourthnoel :  Hmm.. that’s tough. Are there possibly other venders you could ask that you might like just as well? That’s quite a narrow window of time, one week! I hope you find availability for one or the other. He only has one week off a year?! Wow.
