I had all the following alterations done (and done well) for a TOTAL of $125 for all of them.

  • Hemmed tulle skirt
  • Take in 0.5″ each side of bust
  • Take in 0.5″ each side of waist
  • 6 Point Bustle
  • Cups sewn into dress

Somewhere they gave an itemized list for each item but I don’t have it nor remember how much each item cost. I think getting the cups sewn in was about $20 though for example. Any work taking in my bodice was probably the more expensive items as it was beaded lace.

For two dresses it was $1000 and that was a deal with the quality of work. Took in waist of both dresses 3+ inches, the sides of the other gown (it was lace), altered lace hem of one dress, altered lace straps for one dress and also the lace back of the other dress…oh and a french bustle for one dress also.

vlzaccaria:  That was for both dresses. My all lace mermaid was more than my ballgown, however. It is satin with lace and enlish net overlay (Stella York 5786 for reference). Like I said, it was taken in the waist, the straps, the bust, and the sides as well as hemmed (it had a lace hem which is more difficult than a simple hem). She threw in the french bustle for free. Depends on where you’re getting it altered too. I went to a smaller town and the seamstress happened to do fabulous work. If I would have gotten my dresses altered at the bridal salon or in the town I lived in, it would’ve been double. I highly suggest going on yelp to look up reveiws and prices. Also, my seamstress fully explained what needed to be done and how much for each alteration (I have the list somewhere but I just remember the total). There were some alterations that we disagreed on but in the end she made me happy.

My alterations were included with the purchase of the dress as a flat fee of (I think) $675.  Now, I’m 4’11” so no matter what my alterations were going to be expensive, so I was fine with having a flat fee so there were no surprises later down the line.  For the alterations you described, I would think it would be more around $300.<br />

I paid a little over $400 for a bustle, hem, and bra insert.  They were extremely well done and the bustle was complicated, so I felt it was fair pricing for where I live (west coast city).
