Husband and I CANNOT figure out what to call this baby. My mom suggested waiting till he’s born to see “what he looks like” but I don’t think “Wrinkly Old Man” or “Grandpa” is a good name for a baby. π
My husband likes Jacob but I worry about it being shortened to Jake – (I HATE that) – perhaps we could use it as a middle name? I like Joshua Lawrence but he has a cousin named Josh and won’t let them share a name (no negotiating). We have a short last name similar to Dodds.
So here are the options. Anyone got a better suggestion?? I like more formal names.

haha! yeah, i don’t think grandpa would be a good name… one of my good friends waited until her baby was born to name her. sometimes i think it’s easier to pick a name while you’re looking at the child!

I voted for Alexander Lee. Jacob was THE most popular boys name in 2010…. Along with Bella (Isabella) for girls. Um… because of Twilight. I like the books but I personally wouldn’t want to choose the current most popular name as well as have people ask if it’s because of twilight… lol

If you don’t like a nn then just resolve to correct everyone in the first year and you’ll avoid it. But you WILL do a lot of correcting!
If you have a shortlist, then I think that it’s fine to wait for the baby to be born. I have a friend who was born on TV (seriously) and the parents had already chosen a name for him, but once he was born, they looked at him and both said, “Oh crap. He’s not a Michael!” But they had already announced that would be his name on TV, so they gave him the middle name Elliot and that’s what he goes by today. For some people, they DO have to meet their child before a name makes sense!

Justin Lawrence? Or Jared? Or Jackson Lawrence? Since your hubby likes Jacob, what about Jacoby? James or Jason?

I like all your names. But just so you know, people will shorten whatever name you give him. Even if you and your husband always call him Jacob, or Alexander, his teachers and classmates will automatically call him Jake or Alex. So make sure you’re okay with the nickname version too.

@hibiscusgirl: Ooh Jackson is nice too. Hadn’t thought of that one! Thanks!
@hanaleilove:It’s amazing how popular Judah is – everyone I’ve mentioned it to acts like they’ve never heard of it before.

I voted Judah, because I like that.
If you name him Baby Smush Face Numbero Uno though, I think you should call him Umberto for short (because that’s what I mis-read on your poll, hahahaha)

@ddw: Hahaha! My grandmother said when people would ask her what she was going to name my youngest uncle she’d tell them “Claude Rodney…but we’ll call him Claudny for short” π

I couldn’t resist and voted for Baby Smushface. π Other wise I think I probably would have voted for Evan Jacob. All good names though!
