So from the beginning, I really wanted a 50s style dress. I foudn a style I loved, and I decided to take the risk and ordered the dress from the UK. I got it, and don’t know how I feel about it. I need some opinions. It’s a beautiful dress, but I’m not sure I made the right decision.
With matching bolero.
For comparison, here’s the stock photo. I believe she’s wearing 2 petticoats, while I’m wearing 1. She also probably weighs like 20 pounds less than me.

What is it about the dress that’s bothering you?

I love the dress personally! If it were mine, I would take the sleeves off and add a lace bolero instead of the matching one. Its a LOT like what I had in mind for my wedding.

I just don’t know if it looks good on me.

I like the dress and how it fits you but how about a colored sash ? Is this something you would consider ?

I really like it with the bolero!! Without the bolero, though, the shoulder part cuts into you a little weird. It doesn’t look bad, but just a bit off.

Are you planning on adding a belt like the one in the picture? I think it would make a huge difference. I think the fit on you is very nice, very flattering

I LOVE your dress! You know, my hesitance about the dress is in the strap – on you, the straps of the dress feel a little too thick. I would love to see the dress with straps about half that size (might be a quick fix by a seamstress?) – I know that the straps are what’s bothering me, because once the bolero is on I LOVE IT! 😀
Hope that helps.

I like it (I love vintage styles) and I think you look great in it! I like it better with the bolero on though; I think the straps are a little too wide. But the shape is so flattering and the length look perfect on you!!

I love it! I’d add a sparkly belt or something to dress it up just a smidge.

I think the straps are too thick, the bolero sleeves are too baggy/large, and it needs some sort of a sash or belt or something. See if you can fold the straps double toward your neck, safety-pin the bolero sleeves tighter, and tie a white ribbon around your waist, and see if you like it any better.
By and large, I really like it. But if it were me, I’d change the things I mentioned.

I agree, the straps are a bit wide, but could easily be fixed with help from a seamstress. The bolero is too big…but again, that’s what alterations are for!

I think you need to add a belt like the picture!

The sleeves are too thick for you, I believe. I would have them removed if at all possible. The matching bolero is ok, but I think a lace one will look much nicer. Add more fluff with an additional petticoat to the bottom (have you considered getting a colroful one??).

love it – but needs a belt and accessories
