First, go on babies r us and amazon.com to see if they’re registered – every single parent I knew who had a shower registered at one or both of these.

If they’re not, you could pick out a few of your favorite children’s books to help stock the library. I always give Where the Wild Things Are and Miss Rumphius, which work equally well for boys and girls (IMO). But of course there are millions of other wonderful titles.

For baptisms and religious things I always gift a savings bond or a check for their college fund (specify it on the memo line). I really enjoyed cashing all of mine when I graduated from college! It paid my rent those first 6 months while I was still job searching and getting on my feet.

In my circle people still give money/savings bonds at a baptism

@PinkMagnolia:  haha I bought an iPod with some of my savings bonds. If the people back then only knew what their money was going towards.

@PinkMagnolia:  Oh that’s a good idea. I’ve never been to a baptism, so I didn’t realize the custom.

I think regular baby clothes type gifts are more for shower? A baptism is more serious. Even a gift card is good too I think!

If you aren’t that close to them, I would probably do something like a gift card to babies ‘r’ us or target, or whatever local store they would get baby supplies from. That with a book would be a nice gift.

I like the idea of the savings bond but actually have no idea how one works.
