I don’t have suggestions for actual stores, but if you’re close to the border, is it possible to open a P.O. Box for a few months? Or do you have family that live in the US that would ship stuff to you?

It’s hard, I find a lot of the craft stores in Canada either don’t have the same selection or are way more expensive.

I’d try amazon.com, some of the vendors there will ship to Canada. Also the Dollar Tree is opening a bunch of stores in Canada next month as well.

What kind of items are you looking for? Where are you located?

@KendraLeigh:  Dollarama has some crafty stuff at very cheap prices, so definitely look there! I’m not sure so much about online though. Good luck!

@KendraLeigh:  I agree, Michael’s can be pricey, but if you check out their weekly coupons online and print them off, you can save a ton of money!  (Example, this week’s has one for 30% off your entire purchase, or 50% off one item!)  Here’s the link:

(And, I’m sure you wouldn’t be the only one who prints off more than one and makes 2 or more trips to save 50% on more than one item 🙂  )

@KendraLeigh:  If you live in Winnipeg, you can register with a mail receiver in Pembina North Dakota. You have your online orders delivered to them , then zip across the border to pick them up after you are notified of their arrival.

I do this all the time in Vancouver (pickup in Blaine.) I always declare everything and rarely am asked to pay HST (there is no duty on most items).
