So 4 of my 6 Bridesmaid or Best Man could make it on Saturday to try out dresses; we went to David’s Bridal. One of the girls is tall, slender and busty, one of them is medium height and very thin, the other 2 are very short and one of those 2 shorties is very busty and a lil heavier than the others. I originally wanted the girls to wear floor length dresses but one of the shorter girls felt it was flattering to their height. Dress after dress nothing was working and I can tell they were getting frustrated. The girls must have tried on a good 10-12 dresses and nothing was “singing” to us. Only one dress seemed to work ok on all of the girls body type. Please follow the link below (sorry I could not copy the pic and attach it.

Do you girls think that this dress style matches the wedding time, theme, and my dress style? The wedding is on October 30 in the evening. It’s not at a church, the ceremony is outdoors at the venue site. I’m attaching a photo opf my dress. The theme of the wedding is romantic/enchanted forest. Plus, do you guys think that it’s a lil on the short side? The taller girl does not like her knees and the dress shows them off so I do not want her to be uncomfortable. (she thinks they are chubby, but they look fine to me)
Thanks

I would suggest something more formal based on your dress. Is there no way they will agree to floor length?

I agree with going for a long dress. I am getting my Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses from DB too and these look nice on all of them..short or tall.

My bridesmaids are ALL over the board in height and sizes. I let them pick different dresses as long as they were all the same color as one another. Not one of them were intersted in the same dress as another. However, I am also having a summer wedding and a more laid back theme. Maybe you could pick a short dress and a long dress that go together and let them pick which one they would like to wear. If it is a close split then maybe it could work out. Obviously if ONE girl wants short and all the others long then it would make sense to have all long. 😛 Ok, now I am to the point of rambling! 🙂 Hope everything works out. It was sooo much easier for me to just say get whatever you want, just use these colors.

Thanks girls, that is what I was thinking that it was not formal enough. maybe the 2 shorter ones can just alter the dress to their size. Thanks girls

I agree with a PPs the short dress doesn’t seem to go with the feel of your dress HOWEVER I know some grils are goiong a little bit fancier with the dress then the actual wedding is. What are you having your guests wear? If your guests are just wearing cocktail attire I’d say probably go with a fancier full length dress for the girls to make them stand out a bit more but if the guests will be more casual then the shorter dresses might actually look fine when compared to the rest of the guests. I hope that makes sense.

I would suggest something longer too. I am a bit on the shorter side. I think I look fine in floor length dresses. I don’t know what you shorter BMs are comfortable with. But with heels the dress will likely flatter them more. Also, the dresses they tried on in the store, are too long for them. So it probably makes them look like they’re swimming in it.
If you can’t get them to feel comfortable in the same dress, I would give them some room to pick their own dress. Perhaps let them stick with DB, and pick the fabric and color. Perhaps agree to tea length?

In SoCal, short dresses always work & in jewel tones, will look beautiful with your dress.
I’m going to advocate a compromise between @theeekingeek & going with all the same dress. Why not let your BMs choose between the dress that worked out & a long option (perhaps tall girl’s first choice?). Then, for your theme, they won’t be all over the place in style, but they still have a choice between an all-over flattering short option or a more formal long option.

I’m going to disagree slightly and say that I think the dress you picked out would work for your wedding (and I actually really love the dress – which color were you going with?). Shorter dresses are really versatile and the look can really vary dramatically depending on the accessories you pair with it. You could also add a brooch or some trim to the dress to make it a little flashier.

Oooh, first of all I love your wedding gown! Second, I really dont believe Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses have to ‘match’ the brides dress, as long as they aren’t sundresses or something they are formal enough to go. Also, the dresses you chose have a more ‘formal’ look because the fabric is a nice shiny satin, so I think it’s totally fine. Beautiful choice, your girls are lucky!

Then I think that with the right accessories, combined with the color and fabric you picked, this dress can definitely be more formal. A nice deep color does a lot to change the look of the dress. I’m going a similar route – my dress is long but I’m going to have my girls pick out their own burgundy cocktail length dress and tell them to accessorize more formally. I think it’ll look great!

I like the dress you picked. I think it is really pretty and goes well. Pair it with the right shoes and accessories, and it will be perfect!

I don’t see anything wrong with short dresses for a church wedding, even if it is an evening wedding. Personally, I like short better than long & don’t really care for the overall look when it’s too ‘matched’ between the bride & bridesmaid
However, the only drawback may be this particular dress (especially if one of your girls is tall). I tried this on in my search for dresses and thought it was kind of short compared to most of the other cocktail length dresses I’ve seen. I am 5’5″ and the length was perfect on me….BUT when thinking about how it would fit one of my girls (who is thin & tall), noticed that there was virtually NO room to take out the hem to lengthen. Maybe it was a goofy sample dress though. To be cautious, I’m now deciding between a couple other cocktail length black dresses.
