She is correct. If she takes all of the boning out, it will change the structure of the dress and it won’t lay correctly. I would ask her if she could trim some of the boning from each of the inserts. The boning may just be to long and as a result encased to tightly. The boning shouldn’t be showing like it is. Another option would be to try going to another seamstress.

You are very welcome. If you look at the gown, you will be able to see where each piece of boning is. They are one piece, but they are a length running up and down each in a separate seam. She or another seamstress should be able to take the seam out at the waist to be able to trim the boning. Without being able to see the dress in person, I can’t say for sure if it is fixable, but my guess would be that it should be a very easy fix.The way that yours are showing just looks like they are to long for the bodice.

From what you have stated, I really don’t think your seamstress wants to fix it for you. If I was you, I would find another seamstress. It shouldn’t cost you anything to get another opinion. Just let them know when you call what the problem is.

I am making my girls dresses and they have boning in them. I didn’t cut one of the pieces short enough and when I looked at it, it did the same thing that your gown is doing. I just trimmed a little bit off and it was fixed. I don’t think you should give up on this dress just yet. Get a second opinion from another seamstress that will actually do her job.

Hello heather_36, I was just wondering if you managed to resolve the issue with your boning?  I am considering the purchase of a second hand wedding dress which sadly has very prominent boning and it is very much putting me off!  I will talk to the store’s seamstress tomorrow about it, but I just wanted to find out if somebody else has had success with this particular issue?

I tried on Anastasia, and I had a problem with the boning too…I actually put my bra back on because I thought maybe having a fuller bust would solve the problem, but not quite.  I ended up buying a dress with straps because I’m so weirded out by boning.  I’m so glad you got it resolved!
