@DarlingSunshine:  Have you tried it on… in your size?  Could you purchase a sample?

I’m sort of in a similar situation, but I have more time.  I am waiting until my dress comes in to try it on again before I pull the trigger on buying a sample of the dress I’ve fallen in love with since ordering my first.

My feeling is, if it’s meant to be, it will be.  If you’re supposed to wear the other dress, it will turn up for you.  Good luck!

oooooooooh I have to say the Watters Sydney is gorgeous!!! Talk to them about what alterations would cost – you might get lucky. Fingers crossed for you!

The Watters Sydney is super lovely. It’s actually my dress. 🙂 This is what it looks like in Ivory/Ivory. (It’s a bit oversized on me because I’m a size 0 and this sample was a size 12.)

I will point out that if you’re looking for the super super full skirt, like the dress you purchased, this dress is more of an A-line. It looks a little ballgown-y in their stock photo because they’ve got all the tulle poofed out, though I’m sure the skirt could be made a little fuller if I wore an extra layer of crinoline.

Additionally, I’ve seen real bride photos of the ivory/oatmeal version in regular indoor light- it’s very subtle in outdoor natural light, but indoors the oatmeal can look very very dark.

That being said, if you’re still set on the dress, I’d keep calling around looking for a sample. I purchased my dress back at the end of May, and it won’t be coming in until late September. All the places I called around said that they only had samples in 10 or 12 because that’s what Watters allowed them to buy.

If you have to take the dress in a lot, it’s going to really mess with the shape and design. The tulle is asymmetrical and layered just-so, so it’d be really difficult to take so much of it off without altering the shape of it. Also there is a continuous piece of lace embroidery around the top of the dress, all the way around to the back. You’d have to take off a lot of it to make the dress smaller. 🙁

I think both dresses are really beautiful, but have a very different feel. The Watters is sort of earthy and relaxed. If you got the Watters, would it clash with everything you already have for your wedding? Do you have a theme or feel? I am a September bride, also, so I know you wouldn’t have a lot of time to change the feel of the wedding, or find new, coordinating Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses. Just something to think about!
