I’m actually a classicly trained musician (orchestral horn player), so I wanted to walk down the aisle to my favorite orchestral horn excerpt. It’s the Nocturne from Mendelssohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream; I’m sure you can find it on YouTube. I think that there’s an arrangement for string quartet on the international music scores library project (I think it’s imslp.net, but you can just google imslp).
The “Here Comes the Bride” is from Wagner’s opera Lohengrin, and if you know the plot it can put you off. That’s why I liked the Mendelssohn.
I wanted a serene/ formal processional that still had some emotional depth (again, why I liked the Mendelssohn).
I had a personal meaning to the piece I picked which made it special. Do you have any fond memories or special meanings attatched to any piece of music? Pick a piece that you really, really love. If that’s Canon in D, go for it!
