I unfortunately left my BMs to sort out their dresses on their own and they still haven’t ordered anything. I didn’t necessarily need everyone in the same dress, but two of them sort of took over and made everyone else feel like they had to order the same thing. I explicitly said it only has to be long and a dark red color (preferably similar material) and something you personally feel beautiful in that you would wear again. I am having a formal wedding in two months and not sure what to do. There is one dress that the two girls are sending around, this one:
I am REALLY not a fan, especially of the satin. I didn’t want them ordering from davids from the get go because of previous bad customer service and more importantly because I don’t like their dresses. They look very prom-y and scream I’m a bridesmaid. I looked up on nordstroms and macys and there is only one that I kind of like.
Thoughts on places where I can have the girls order different dresses to their liking in a dark red color, is under $200, but isn’t like cheap looking or satin or prom-like, which isn’t necessarily made to order because the wedding is in 8 weeks?
Thank you for your help! 🙂

@lillisc: FYI, I ordered from keepmeinstitches.biz aka Rowan Bridal (an online and brick & mortar store in PA). The dress wasI bought was excellent quality, very well made, and well under $200 for my daughter’s wedding. You could see if they have anything you like, you would have to call their customer service to see what they have in stock in your color, to order within 2 months time. Just make sure they get measured properly locally, so you know what size they need. Here’s one that comes in a red for $79.00 (although I don’t know if it’s a deep red)
This one comes in Dark Red for only $81.00: http://www.keepmeinstitches.biz/maid1224Dear Fiance.htm

Well, you can’t have it both ways. You can’t say, “Get whatever you want as long as it’s red and you love it” and then say, “Oh wait, except for this fabric and except for this store and except if someone else wants it and except if I don’t really like it and ….” Kinda mixed signals right?
I do think the dress you linked to from Nordstrom’s is very pretty. I say, to reduce drama that you be honest with your BM’s and say you’re not a fan of the one they’ve been discussing, that you’ve changed your mind and really do want more input into the dresses, and that you’d really like them to wear the Nordstroms dress. If anyone is really against it, then regroup, see how many don’t like it and what other options they can give.
In the end, they’ve agreed to be BM’s which generally means wearing the dress you’ve picked. Worst comes to worst you just pull the bride card and make it happen.

@creativeplannertobee: thank you for the link. how was the customer service? easy to contact someone and answer questions?
@kala_way: hind-sight is 20/20 i guess. you bring up a good point. i didn’t think i needed to specify to not get satin/davids bridal type dresses as we are all in our 30’s. the two girls who have kind of taken over have actually both had bad experiences with DB and initially told everyone not to get dresses from there so i don’t really know what happened in the communication where the dress they sent me for final consideration was the one above.
i know the other 4 girls hate the prom-type dresses that were sent around, but it doesn’t seem like anyone is taking the initiative i hoped they would have to find a long dark red dress that flatters them and they like. there were some concerns from the two girls about pictures at the wedding, but nevertheless i still even insisted they don’t need to match.
honestly, it’s not even necessarily the DB dress i don’t like, it’s that i don’t think anyone would look very attractive in that cut/style. sorry… rambling at this point. *sigh*
if anyone has additional links to stores/online retailers/ideas for long dark red dresses i would really appreciate it. especially if they have options (without charging an arm and a leg) for rushing dresses in less than 8 weeks. thank you! 🙂

I’m not sure about the 8 week mark, you’d probably have to pay a rush fee at most places–unless you do go entirely off the rack.
Weddingtonway is a good site for seeing quite a few designers at once.
Here are a few options from them

@lillisc: Yes, it was very easy and very good customer service! Although, if Customer Service is not immediately available, I believe you can leave a message. They actually called me back in a short time. I went to my local dry cleaner/seamstress and had her measure me, and then I called them with my measurements and they suggested the size to buy, and they were correct with my size. I wasn’t home when the dress was delivered, but I know it took less than 3 weeks to come in. (I had a death in my immediate family and was out of state for 3 weeks). Their website isn’t the best, as you have to click on every gown to see what color it comes in-but if you call them, they will tell you what gowns they have in the color you are looking for. As with any purchase, read their policies. 🙂

thank you ladies all so much! i’m relatively new to the weddingbee community and i am so touched in the manner in which everyone is so helpful and looks out for each other. i lost my mother when i was young and my Future Mother-In-Law is disabled and unable to help with wedding planning so i’ve felt somewhat alone throughout this process. i love my fiance dearly, but his eyes glaze over when i talk to him about Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses, wedding colors, etc. 🙂 the support i feel in this community has really lifted me up. it is amazing to know that i have a cool group of women to turn to for advice, to vent or bounce ideas off of.
