I spent a night last week in the ER with food poisoning. I have huge bruises (from the IV and blood draw site) to show for it on the inside of each forearm. They have barely faded at all. Is there anything I can do to help them heal quicker, or do you think they will go away in 12 days? If they don’t fade completely, what kind of foundation should I use to cover them? Thanks in advance!

Yikes! I hope you’re feeling better. I think they will fade, but if not, try a tattoo concealer. There’s one at Sephora by Kat Von D that comes highly recommended.

Arnica! Google it, you’ll love it. You can find it at a health foods store.

@Linz1231: Thanks, I’ve never felt so awful in my life and am glad to finally be back to normal. I didn’t even think of tat concealer. Thanks!

They will probably fade in 12 days. Arnica gel, which you can get at a health food store/Whole Foods, is supposed to help bruises heal faster. I use it, and am not sure how effective it is, but couldn’t hurt!

@tcanne: Yay! I learned something new today. I probably have more of a chance at finding this than tat concealer, as I live in the middle of nowhere. :/

Also- long hot baths with a few tblspoons of epsom salt seems to help my pole dancing bruises heal quicker….

Oh yes, I have heard Arnica works well.

A bruise (also known as a contusion) usually last about 2 weeks. You can determine the age of a bruise by the color of it. It usually is:
day 1-5 the bruise appears black or blue
day 5-10 the bruise is lighter and more or less green or dark yellow
day 10-14 the bruise turns yellow and then fades completely

I got a massive bruise 2 weks before my wedding also. Like the worst I’ve ever had in my life. It was on my leg so my wedding dress hid it, sorta showed with my rehearsal dinner dress but was bummed about it showing on my honeymoon in bathinguits. I tried Arnica because I researched like crazy to speed healing too. I don’t think it worked. 14 days later on my wedding it was still there. It was gone by mid- honeymood. Look for good make up to cover it!

they should fade away, I always get terrible bruises after having blood drawn and iv’s but they always go away within about a week so you should definietly be in the clear. If not I generally use an under eye concealer because it does well at covering the purple colors, it has always worked for me and I get bruises a lot because of a connective tissue disorder. Good luck
