i would keep checking with other caterers and even some bbq take out places.  keep in mind the cost for labour for service and set up tear down along with plating and cutlery.

Have you thought about having a luncheon style reception instead? It would be more around $10 per person and there’d be less alcohol needed as well.

We are doing BBQ trays by the pound on our buffet and it is costing around $10-12 a head.  We also looked into having the BBQ place cater but the prices were bananas, almost twice as much and they weren’t even providing people to staff the buffet.  We would be paying almost twice as much for delivery (I have a van that we can use to pick up the food) and setup/takedown of the metal chafing dishes with butane heaters for the food (I found basic aluminum ones for around $40 for what we need.)

We hired caterers for our engagement party last weekend & paid $7.5/head (4 hr party, apps all 4 hrs). The caterer we used is a local CSA/farm share coop. Maybe you could find something like that to bring costs down?

We were quoted $69.99 pp for cocktail reception (alcohol cost was seperate), $49.99 for a plated meal, and $39.99pp for buffet…3 years ago.

Your prices would be a bargain where I live.

We looked into having a BBQ place cater. We would have had a very similar menu to you for the same price without servers. I think that’s a pretty average price.

We think we are going to have an Italian place cater now. It will be a lot cheaper and the Italian food around here is amazing.

Keep looking.  That is what I did and found my caterer that included set up and cleanup with waitstaff for $10.  Food was delicious too and hot.  They even cut up my cake free of charge. it was buffet but they did plate the apps and went around refilling glasses.

Wow, I would kill for $15/pp. We went with a caterer for $40/pp and that was after 10+ companies didn’t return emails/phone calls because their starting price was $70/pp.

Then again, it’s location, location. Keep looking around and getting quotes. Ask a lot of questions about what is included, like linens, dishes, set up, tear down, etc. Some of the “cheap” caterers may have to add those in, whereas the more expensive looking may include those services.
