I never thought that I would be a “multiple dress” bride… and yet, here I am. I bought the lace/ tulle fit and flare (ivory over champagne) despite saying from the start that I did not want anything fitted. (I’m pear shaped and just want to be comfortable on the wedding day. I don’t want to be worried about my hips being photographed in an unflattering way.) I think I got a little caught up in the wedding excitement/convinced I could lose some weight/deceived by the pedestal about my actual proportions/wanting to wear my mom’s veil (cathedral length with lace that has yellowed a bit). When my dress came in, my stomach dropped. I HATED the coloring and the fit. For months now, I’ve been looking at similar silhouettes + coloring online and telling myself that my dress just needs to be fitted + and that it will still photograph as a “white dress.” But after seeing a friend’s photographs come in, I did the thing I’m not supposed to do– tried on more dresses. In looking back at photos of previous shopping experiences to explain what I was looking for, I fell (back) in love with a Stella York fit and flare (Dress #3) that has lace continuing down the dress. (I dismissed this dress before because my mom’s veil didn’t work with it.) At BHLDN I fell in love with this satin A-line dress (Dress #2), which is much more similar to my original vision for myself and eliminates any concern over how my hips will photograph.
Now I don’t know what to do. I finally have my fitting mid-June to see the hem and added crinoline + measure for taking in the waist on Dress #1. My mom is not insisting that I wear her veil. I just wanted to. Now, I don’t know what I want (clearly) although I did prefer the plainer look of the BHLDN veil.
I can find the Stella York dress on pre-owned wedding websites. I’d have to pay full price for the BHLDN dress, which is possible though not ideal. I won’t decide anything until after my fitting, but honestly… which dress looks better???
