Hi everyone, so last April I got engaged, ever since the engagement I have been looking for a mermaid for dress. It’s always been what I wanted. The first store I looked at had a dress very close to what I wanted but I didn’t want to settle on the first dress I tried on and the place was kind of rude so decided to not go back there. I tried a few more places and didn’t like the dresses. So I went by myself and saw this dress hanging there that I loved! It was blush and ivory and totally different to the mermaid style I had originally wanted, but I loved it! They had a deal where if I bought it that week I would get 20 percent off and finally I had a dress I felt like a bride in so I bought it. After it sunk in that I bought this dress and it wasn’t what I initially wanted I got upset. My future mother in law didn’t really like it, she thought the mermaid was better suited for me. However my mom has just paid 3,000 dollars for this dress! Well the decision had been made to buy it so there Was no turning back. I just received it from production and I now am not sure again. It’s not very flattering. I wish the waistline could be one inch longer and it can’t be done. I want to feel the most beautiful i have ever felt on my wedding day and I just can’t get past this dress. I feel like the blush color makes me look drab and the way the dress sits looks frumpy. I talked to my mom and felt so bad but was just so unhappy with my choice and she said I can always sell it and buy another dress.
When I first said yes:
When it came in:
So since I have been looking online for a used dress I can purchase with my own money. I found Vera wang Ethel and fell in love. I haven’t tried it on but from pictures it looks like what I want, and can return it if it isn’t right.
Please help me, I can’t decide whether I’m overreacting with this dress I currently have or if I should get a new one. I just want to look beautiful on my day!

Your first dress looks GORGOUS on you!!!!! Maybe you can even add a belt to really bring in the waist line even more? But overall, it’s SO beautiful! <3
However, since you did say you could buy and return the Vera Wang dress – you could always buy it, try it on, and see if it’s really what you expected in person than from just pictures – and return it if anything? Just so you can clear any doubts in your mind. Though – if you really fall in love with this dress, it might make your decision even harder. 😛
My vote is still for your originl purchased dress. 🙂

You look amazing in your current dress!

First off, you look gorgeous in your dress!
I haven’t started trying on dresses but I get how you feel. I tend to be very picky when I’m shopping for a dress for an event and can be turned off by a small detail. Wedding dress shopping will be hard I know it. I also get carried away when something is on sale… And then sometime regret taking a decision quickly just because it’s on sale.
Whatever you end up doing won´t be a mistake. It’s your big day, you should feel beautiful and should not let other people tell you how you should feel.

I do like the second dress better, but you look great in the first one as well. I think the second one is flirtier and will flatter your body more so than the ballgown.

I think the first dress flows beautifully, but if you’ve been set on a mermaid dress the second one is beautiful. I voted for the first dress, but from what I can tell used dresses in new condition can be sold for almost as much as they were purchased. That would probably be an alright option without too much loss.

i think you should get a belt but the first dress looks great on you

I love the first dress. I think a thin sash would emphasize the waist more and look amazing. Something like this?

hpearson437: I personally don’t care for the Vera Wang dress, especially the back of it. I think the dress you have is just so beautiful and looks great on you . Maybe with accessories and like someone suggested a belt to add to it?
However , I know how you feel I drive myself crazy shopping for clothes / shoes then when I get home I second guess so I could imagine the difficulty of choosing a wedding dress. Regardless of the advice you get here.. Do what will make you the most happy! At least your mom is understanding and she is right, you can always sell it online .

I do love both dresses and I totally understand rethinking your decision, it’s such a hard one to make.
You look beautiful in both but I would choose the first, and possibly add a belt as people have suggested. I just think it stands out more than the other and looks great.

hpearson437: I like your first dress way better. Both are pretty, but the A-line style looks so great on you.
