Hi Bees! First time poster here 🙂
I am in love with a ring from Birks called the Nordic Light (hence my user name!). I fell in love with the uniqueness of the prongs and the simplicity of the setting as soon as I tried it on. I have tried so many rings since but I always go back to it!
I had only found a similar setting once before today, and it was extremely thin and not as nice as the one I love at Birks, but I just discovered the East-West solitaire setting on Blue Nile and am so conflicted!
At Birks, I could get a 0.5 carat stone in 18k white gold with an excellent cut and decent specs (probably G or H colour and VS2 clarity or higher) for around $5,000 CDN (about $4,000 USD).
On Blue Nile, I could get the East-West setting in 14K white gold (it doesn’t appear to come in 18K and the platinum version has these random little diamonds clustered on the prongs underneath that I don’t like) with a larger stone (0.90 carat, H colour, VS2, ideal cut) for $4,500 CDN (about $3,500 USD).
My problem is, I have found rings online before that I thought I loved but once I actually tried them on I didn’t love them in person as much, or at all. I am scared if I tell my SO to order from Blue Nile instead of going to Birks, I might not love the ring once I see it in person and then it will be too late!
Another thing to mention is that with Birks you get a decent warranty, and you gain 1% of the value of your ring each year you own it for up to ten years and you can use that plus the original purchase price of your ring towards an upgrade at any time, which would mean I could get a bigger stone later, PLUS they only use Canadian diamonds which I also like (the one I found on Blue Nile is not Canadian).
Here are some pics! Tell me what you would do 🙂
Birks Nordic Light (the diamond isn’t blue it’s just the way it looks in their website photos haha):
On my hand with the band I would want too (.70 carat stone shown):

Thank you in advance for your opinions/advice ladies!
If someone has either setting (or even a similiar setting) I would LOVE to see a photo!!
