Have you heard of vitamin string quartet? They do instrumental versions of many popular songs. I would check them out if you haven’t!

We used this:

Our friend was originally supposed to play the bagpipes for our processional.  I picked this song because the bagpipe repertoire is limited.  Then he couldn’t make it to our wedding at the last minute, so we used this recorded version instead.

It’s an old, classic folk melody.  The only thing is that some of the verses are more wedding-appropriate than others.  Initially it was going to be an instrumental version so I didn’t worry about the lyrics, and then at the last minute I had to make a quick choice so I stuck with the same song.

I love classical music, and if we had gone with a string quartet I probably would have used the Wedding March from the Marriage of Figaro, though if you don’t like classical music that probably wouldn’t work for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIUIJKgNuAc

What about something older but still not classical?  Is that a good compromise?  There is always The Wedding Song by Peter, Paul & Mary: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IrCeP5slxw

What about hiring an acoustic guitarist?
