I made Vera Wang my last stop for dress shopping before making the decision out of four stores. I’ve been quite worried that I won’t find a dress that I love as I want one that is romantic and bridal but with an edge, something different.
I tried on the Lillian and Liesel first but they didn’t work because I’m too petite, the trumpet style looks hideous on me and Liesel just swallowed me up and the train was too long for my taste. I am 5’5 with heels, size 00 stick thin with flat chest and butt.
I then tried Diana, Katherine and Octavia, which were my top 3 picks, and Katarina last. I kind of regretted trying that one though because it looked amazing but costs £9k+ (over $10k)! Ouch.
Here are the three dresses: firstly Octavia, it’s an edgy textured ballgown made from super light tulle. I was so impressed with how billowy and light it was, you feel like wearing nothing. although I’m not sure if it is romantic enough? The bodice is nude and does come in ivory.
Secondly, Diana. I wore a short bridesmaid version of the design last year and I loved the dress. I was concerned about the dropped waist bodice as it made me look shorter but I think the belt helped a bit. The flanges are just so organic which is where VW’s design succeeded over other similar dresses. It’s also quite light and there is a nice train that doesn’t collapse and scrunch up as you walk and turn corners due to the design.
Lastly, Katherine. This was THE dress I fell in love with when I first got engaged and pinned a million pictures of. In person I loved it too but was a bit surprised at the weight, it is even heavier than the Liesel which was a larger ballgown with a massive train. In the end I don’t think the weight matters too much but my sister has commented how it looks like swallowing me up. It is four sizes too big, but still is a larger shape than the previous two.
I have browsed some dress posts and found that although the OPs themselves find it hard to decide, there are usually clear winners for everyone else, so maybe I’m also blinded after dress shopping at so many places. I would appreciate any input!
Here’s a picture of Katarina just for comparison:
And Liesel (I definitely would cut the train off), I overheard the consultant said it’s a size 16 so it looks far far too big on me.
Thank you all so much.
