When I tried on the sample, the corset seam showed through – it’s the the horizontal line across my lower mid-section here:
It’s where the boning ends. And you can’t see the boning, but the horizontal seam is really distracting.
EDIT TO ADD: This is sewn into the lining of the dress – not a separate corset (if that makes sense!)
If I fix the pattern with the designer now before the dress is made it’s just $55 (cheaper than altering it afterwards).
Should I have the boning and seam hidden end at the belt? Then I’m worried if my lower abs won’t be held in, and the boning may dig into my hips and lower ad when I bend over or sit.
Or should I have the boning and seam extended all the way to the part where the skirt flares out? Then I’m worried there’ll be a lot of boning running all down my butt and thighs and it may not be comfortable.
…can any experts on this please help me?! Or if you have this type of dress with boning can you let me know what the boning looks like?

I had this same problem. I had to get a longline bra that stopped at the waist. It was hard, because most longlines stop at the hips. That’s the word you’re looking for. “Corset” is going to give you a line down to the hips, which unfortunately is going to be nearly impossible to hide.

If you still want holdy-inny properties, you can always do spanx under the bra. Some spanx go up to the ribcage, so it would be nearly seamless.

Thanks everyone! I’m actually not wearing a bra under this dress here – the boning and seam is from the actual lining of the dress itself. I’ve asked the store to have the designer extend the boning all the way down to avoid the seam around the waist. And if need be, I can have it altered up higher afterwards if it looks too stiff.

I’m surprised they put the dress out like that! Can they add a lining to cover the boning more? A satin silk slip material inside the lining would help hide it. It’s beautiful but I agree you need to get rid of that bump if you can.
