I need some input on this…my bridesmaids are wearing black dresses and I’d like them to have gold sashes around the waist. I am paying for the sashes and am on a very very tight bidget, like under $10 for each (I have 3 girls). And with the color gold I am looking for I am just not having any luck with finding any sashes, so I was thinking of buying gold chair sashes for them to wear around their waist.
I thought this might work because I can’t see how different the two would really be. Do you think this could work? All the girls are different sizes so I am somewhat concerned if the sashes would fit around the waist of all of them. Their sizes range from a 6 to a 14, so I really don’t know how a chair sash or normal sash would work. I am wanting them to tie in the back in a bow, so do you think they would work out? I need opinions because I have to order them very soon!

I think it would be easier to find a friend with a sewing machine and buy strips of fabric in the color you like to make into sashes.

@agirlwithdreams7: Can you post pics of the type of chair sashes you’re referring to, so we can get an idea of what it might look like? In general I do agree with you though, I don’t see the difference – fabric sashes are fabric sashes. The only difference I can think of is if the chair sashes are really wide they may be awkward on the waist. But, if it looks good, and you like it, go for it!

Can you try it and see if it would work? I mean, the chair sashes might be too wide or too long or too slippery or too anything compared to something that’s meant to be worn around the waist. If it’s the same, and it would work in all those ways then I don’t see why not. Sounds like a great work-around.

medium width gold ribbon??

@misschickpea: That’s a good suggestion. Ribbon might be cheaper too if you can get it wholesale, and you can get them up like 4 inches wide even.

I’ve found super cheap individual chair sashes for like $0.83, and if they are too wide I can fold them in half, and if they are too long on one person we can wrap them around twice. I am wanting the silk kind, regardless of whether or not they are chair sashes or regular sashes, so they’re probably going to be slippery lol I can just tie a knot first and that will solve the problem. I have a black satin sash that works if I do it that way.
