Baby girl is due in February, and we are settled on the first name, but are going in between for middle name. I was hoping some of you ladies could weigh in on your opinion! Katharine was DH’s grandma’s name, but she went by Kay as a nickname. I like Kay because of how it sounds, but I’ve had some people ask me if its “K like the letter, or Kay like the name” which got me wondering. I’m a big fan of classic sounding names as well, which I think both of these are. Thanks ladies!

I personally like Amelia Katharine, but I am super biased because Catherine Amelia is one of our options for our baby girl!!

ADiamondInTheRough: I think Amelia Katharine is much more elegant sounding, I don’t like “Amelia Kay” at all. Love Amelia Katharine though and you could still use the nickname Amelia Kay affectionately if you wanted.

You are a thoughtful mom and dad to be thinking ahead. I like both, but for reasons already stated, I LOVE Amelia Katharine!

ADiamondInTheRough: I think Amelia Katharine is too many syllables, especially if you have a long-ish last name. Amelia Kay rolls off the tounge nicely.
ETA: As for your worry about the confusion between Kay and K, remember that most of the time middle names are really only used in a written, rather than verbal format. (Legal documents, forms, etc)

Amelia Katherine. I don’t like the name Kay, no offence intended to any Kay’s out there!

I voted Katherine, but I am being bias because that is my daughters middle name except spelled with a C. It was my late mothers name so it holds a special meaning for me 🙂 I am not a huge fan of the name Kay, sorry! >_<

I prefer Katherine. Using a short form as a middle name can get confusing.

Amelia Katherine is one of our names too. Amelia being my Mother-In-Law middle name and Katherine a variation of my mothers middle name. I just love it!

ADiamondInTheRough: I prefer Amelia Katherine, unless you really were just going to name her Amelia K. That would be so cool, like Harry S Truman.

If you’re naming a baby after someone, don’t do it after their nickname. Her name was Katherine – go with Amelia Katherine.

My little girl’s middle name is Kay, Kay is my mom’s middle name and I’ve always loved it. Plus I’m one of about 30% of women who have the middle name Marie so I wanted something a little different on the middle name front. I think Katharine is lovely too. As is Amelia. I’m a big fan of your name choices 🙂

Definitely Katherine 🙂 It will be my (future) baby girl’s middle name as well. Love it. It’s classic and timeless. Kay is cute, but not as her given-name.
