Okay beauty Bees help me out please! I’m going to be doing my own makeup for my wedding in May. I figure now is the time to score some good deals and buy some things as I’m going to want to start practicing in the next couple of months. I’m pretty much starting from scratch although I have a lot of drugstore/cheap makeup at home. I’m going to go to Sephora to have them color match me, I’m probably going with MUFE foundation and not sure of powder, blush or lip yet. I asked for LORAC pro palette for Christmas.
I received an email from Ulta for $15 off of $50 purchase, and if I spend $50 I get free shipping. I feel like this is a good deal – thoughts?? (I’m not a big non-drugstore makeup purchaser).
I am able to get the following for approx. $50 (free shipping), but not sure if I should get the Urban Decay setting spray instead (so just get the 2 makeup brush sets and setting spray). I’m a frugal person at heart so I’m not used to spending so much at once on products – but it’s better than the $$ (IMO) for a MUA as I get to keep the products in the end, and I haven’t found a MUA who is available and reasonable in my area. I also think doing multiple trials beforehand will help me feel more confident my makeup will look great the day of – rather than leaving it in a MUA’s hands that I’ve had one trial with.
So which grouping should I get? Or should I get something else? Please comment with your suggestions!
1. Nyx Cosmetics Matte Finish Makeup Setting Spray
Palladio Lip Liner
Or should I get:
2. The 2 Real Techniques brush sets and Urban Decay setting spray (which one?) $29

I prefer the NYX over UD and for the price, you can’t beat it!

@MsYankee: urban decay setting spray! I use it every day and my face always looks flawless. Makeup brushes are essential for proper application too, my favorite brushes are from Sigma.

I use Urban Decay All Nighter finishing spray and it is amazing.

Get the Urban Decay setting spray from Sephora. But for the money, I’d prefer the Sonia Kashuk brushes from Target.

I think the setting spary is going to be really important for the longevity of your makeup. If you don’t go with a good setting spray – you may just need to blot and powder more often. That’s probably more of a personal preference. I’d go with the two brush sets and the UD setting spray.

Thanks everyone for your input!
I’m going with the Urban Decay spray – I just think it will be worth it.
I scheduled a 90 minute personal beauty consultation at my local Sephora (for NYE – it comes with a makeover so I figure 2 for 1 – try out some products for the wedding and get my makeup done for NYE night (we’re going out!)) There’s a $125 minimum purchase, so I’m going to hold off buying using the Ulta sale and just wait for the Sephora consult. I’m sure I can get to $125 fairly quickly. I’m thinking MUFE starter kit (which comes with a brush, primer, foundation and the finishing powder which I’ve heard good things about on the Bee), blush (not sure which yet) and setting spray.

Real techniques brushing will make any makeup you use look awesome!
Careful with powders, as you dont want one containing spf, so titanium dioxide/iron oxide as it will give you a white face (same with foundations). Lucky for us brides, most cheaper products are actually better for this!!
Best primer is MAC Paintpot in painterly. I love it so much!!!!!
For setting, you dont need a spray and powder, you can use one or the other but completely up to you. I find that any brand spray is not particularly good. Plus powder can stop you looking greasy (tip of my nose why you shine????)
Lip liners, doesnt really matter what brand as most will do the job -lips are always the only thing that should need retouching so bring it with you on the day). As long as it matches your lip colour rather than the lipstick. Unless you are having a red lip, in which case match the lipstick shade.
I find that high end/low end clear mascara/brow ‘gel’s dont work. You are better with a solid brow gel if you want staying power, or even use a hint of hair spray on your brush brush but let it dry out a bit first so it doesnt drip.
