I am on a very small budget for a dress, and spotted this one on eBay. It’s a discontinued David’s Bridal dress from their online collection.

I love the mermaid look. However, looking at old reviews of the dress, someone described it as a “cheap tacky curtain”!

I may be on a tight budget, but I don’t want to LOOk that way, lol. I was wondering what you all thought…?

Too be honest, I don’t think it looks very good. I think you can probably find something else on ebay in your size. Or even on here.

I think it’s not helping matters that the model is a mannequin, or standing next to a window. I think the framework for a great dress is here. If you wanted to make it look classier, lose the pearls–since it’s DB, theyre probably fake anyways–and maybe add a fancy floral belt of some sort, or some embellishment to the top of it. You could spend $200 to gussy it up, and still wind up with an incredibly inexpensive dress, provided it doesnt get bid up too high. And then, if you still have doubts once you get it, you’d almost certainly be able to get what you paid for it back by reselling on ebay or posting on craigs.

Thank you all for your comments! @AmuseMeMusically: that’s a great idea, I thought the pearls looked a little iffy myself. Do you think they’re something I could remove easily myself (aka scissors)? LOL

Honestly, it doesn’t look like it was made very well. The other gowns that the other posters listed for you look like they would be a much better choice. There is one that is made in China though. I would be leary of that one.

Have you gone to a store to try on dresses to see what style you like? Maybe you sould physically try some on so you know how they look on you. Then hunt online if that is what you choose to do.

I tried on dresses at David’s Bridal 2 years ago (my wedding had to be put off for various reasons), so I know I’m a size 6 and that I like the mermaid/trumpet style best.
Thanks to those posting links. You all are very helpful and thoughtful! 🙂

I don’t like it. Can’t tell about the cheap. Good luck with the search.

I don;t think you should compromise on a pretty dress just because it is inexpensive. There are plenty of dresses out there that are fairly inexpensive. Keep looking honey! I am in the same boat myself! I bought a cheap dress off of ebay and I HATE it!!!! Don’t buy it if you aren’t sure!

Hey OP, what’s your budget if you don’t mind me asking? If we have any idea of what you’re looking to spend, we might be able to help you a little more:) Are you dead-set on a mermaid style, or are you open to some other suggestions?
