I’m in NJ and we’re using The Pros (www.thepros.com). Our photographer’s name is Hugh. They have numerous photographers to choose from. . . all with their own unique style so you can choose the one right for you. Their price is definitely in your budget, too!

Check out http://photographergio.com/blog/

We’re using him for our wedding.  He already took our e-photos and they turned out fantastic!  Good luck.

@un-bridezilla:  I loved my photographers , Heather and Walter of Meet the Burks, they are based out of NC but they travel anywhere. I think they are outside of your budget but if you are planning a non Saturday wedding they may work for you. http://Www.meettheburks.com

@un-bridezilla:  I loved them! we’ve only received our preview pics but we love them.

If your date is correct they may be able to work with you. I think they start at $2500-2700, But they offer off season and off day discounts. Travel costs could be an issue but I’d certainly contact them. Heather responds extremely quickly.

@un-bridezilla:  Whatever you do, please don’t use The Pros. They have a ridiculous number of bad reviews online. Just check their Wedding Wire reviews for starters. I’ve read dozens and dozens of horror stories on the Bee, The Knot, and Wedding Wire about this company and it breaks my heart.

I would recommend checking the Wedding Photojournalist Association if you’re looking for a true wedding photojournalist but be mindful that under $2,000 is about half the rate that most experienced professionals in the NYC/NJ area have to charge to make a living so really look into anyone you hire at that rate because it’s really impossible to be running a legitimate business in the city at those prices.

@madteaparty:  have you read reviews for The Pros? They are a notoriously terrible company . . . please please be careful and mindful of the issues that hundreds of couples have left reviews about on sites like Wedding Wire and The Knot.

@un-bridezilla:  Congrats on your engagement.  I agree with @mariematt.  Don’t use The Pros.  The WeddingWire reviews will make you think twice about them.

It’s tough to find a photographer under $2K in the NY tri-state area but I saw this on Offbeat Bride.  You can check them out:  http://www.pennacephotography.com/

And like @luvmesumhim said, you can’t go wrong with The Burks.  I almost went with them but went for someone local.  They travel everywhere!
