My poor friend just found out that the baby boy they’ve been preparing for for the last 8 months is going to be a GIRL! My friend’s shower is this Sunday and I’ve pretty much prepped everything already. The colors were supposed to be blue, orange and chocolate brown and an owl theme. See table mockup below:
Her candy buffet:
Now that she’s preparing for a girl, how can I adjust the shower decor? I’ve planned to print out this owl to stick in the candy buffet and in flower arrangements:
And am planning to use this balloon in balloon bouquets:
Should I incorporate pink/green somehow? I’ve already bought all the plates, napkins, cups, etc, and all the fabric is blue/orange. Creative bees, help me out!

I think your original plans are fabulous, the “girlier” additions you’ve suggested are cute, and that you don’t need to change a thing. It makes for a fun story, you’re giving her a beautiful shower, and I don’t see any reason to change the decor now that you know it’s a girl. The only thing that might be useful is to try to get word to guests about the surprise- that way they have the chance to readjust if they’ve purchased (or planned on purchasing) very gender-specific gifts.

Just add a few balloons in bright pink and another color, and it will be fine. Just make a funny announcement such as ” The precious he is an adorable she.”

I agree, looks like you’ve done a good job adapting! Maybe just add a few splashes of pink in a few other places, like in the candies you’re going to use… the almond joy’s should be easy enough to switch out to like, pink starbursts or something… And if you didn’t already purchase the blue balloons you could switch them to pink? I mean, I think everyone will understand if the colors are a little off now given the circumstances! You’ve done an awesome job planning though!! WOW! love it all!

If I was in your position here is what I would do:
– Call the people that were invited and inform them of the new development, so they can adjust their gift accordingly!
– Return as much of the blue decor as I can, and replace it with pink
– Ribbon-wrap vases or candle holders in pink and green ribbon to tie in your new owl balloons
– Make all the flowers (seen in your table mock-ups) pink
– Use pink and orange for our latex helium balloons

If I find out I’m having a boy, can I have your boy shower? lol
Seriously, though, that sucks for your poor friend! I think the changes you talked about making will be just fine, it’s not like everything needs to be pink anyway.

I think it will make for a fun story and an evem more interesting time. If you switch out the blue for some pink in some places or even add pink I think you will be fine. In the end who says girls can’t like pink too?

I agree, swap as much blue out as you can for pink and keep the brown and orange.
Here is a great blog post for some great ideas
A few pictures from that post:

Keep the theme. Looks great. I had a girl and we didn’t really want a girlie shower. You are doing a great job!

And now I have a new phobia. We were worried about this with our last baby, and now I’m pretty sure everytime I’m pregnant I’m going to tell people to wait until the last minute to buy stuff!!
(Did you friend get any u/s between week 20 and week 38?? How on earth did the doctor screw that up???)
PS-I love the decor and agree with DG that you don’t really need to change anything!

I agree with MRS.DG and MightySapphire. As long as you tell the guests that its a girl not a boy all the decor is fine! This is one of the cutest showers I have ever seen! You are such a great planner.
By The Way i love the girl Owl. hehe.

Awww thanks guys! I seriously got all my ideas from the Bee when I was planning my wedding! I am incorporating things into this shower that I didn’t get to do in my wedding (make own invites, candy buffet). I am going to add in pink but keep the blue. I just have tooooo much blue candy and blue ribbon to start over now! LOL. Plus, I love the blue/orange combo – but I think pink will look fine with it too. Thank you so much!

Caszos – I LOVE that shower! Thank you, I’m heading to that site right now to check it out! Love how they incorporated all the colors!!!

@twocatcupcake: I absolutely love the invite, that little blue owl is sooo cute!
I think it will work just fine for a little girl shower, I like the idea of little pops of green and pink in ballons. =D I’m sure the future Momma will be happy anyway it comes out!

@MightySapphire: It happens more than you think … I have seen quite a few gender mix-ups. Nothing like being in the delivery room when the “wrong” gender comes out of the mom! Things are pretty blurry in those ultrasounds!
