I’m going for the obvious, but if I were on bedrest I would love movies, books and an iPad..

A starter kit for knitting/crochetting might be a good idea if she’s into that kind of thing.

A Netflix giftcard

Books (Maybe even a Kindle? Amazon’s cheapest one is just $69), an inexpensive tablet (no need to get an expensive iPad when you can get an Android tablet for $200 or less even), movies, puzzles…

Books, magazines, maybe a puzzle, or craft kit?  If she doesn’t have one, a nice tray table could be a huge help.

You spending lots of time with her?

I’m a big reader so books or magazines would be great. Other than that, a nice soft throw, slippers and/or pair of PJs could be bundled to ship cheaply. For me nice, quality cosmetics always make a fab gift. I’m talking lotions, potions…ect not necessarily makeup. Go for the brands that may usually be out of price range for her even if you can only afford 1 or 2 items.

I love that stuff but usually only use drugstore brands so when I get the good stuff, I love it! I find that you can totally appreciate the difference in packaging, scent & application when you get the good stuff.

I’m trying to picture myself on bed rest & what I would like…Maybe something that speaks to her as a woman, not only a mother because everything in her mind & around her is solely focused on getting that little baby out safely which is obviously the only important thing. But a gesture that speaks to her as the woman, the person, the friend you know & care about will be appreciated immensely too. You know her, picture her lying there…what is going through her mind, what will make her happy?

Whatever you choose, it’s a beautiful & kind gesture. Very nice of you! Let us know what you picked…

Is there a local market or restaurant in her area that could deliver some healthy food to her house? If your friend is following pregnancy eating restrictions, or if you don’t know, just avoid things like cold cuts, soft cheeses, and smoked/cured meats

I would bet it’s hard to eat healthy if you can’t stand up to cook. Even just some fresh cut fruit and veggies, whole grain muffins, that kind of thing would probably be appreciated 🙂

+1 on the suggestions of good books (a series maybe?) handicraft kits if she might like it, and movie subscriptions – I think you can gift Netflix and probably Hulu subscriptions.

If you decide to go with books, I’ll be if you posted a new thread asking for good book suggestions for pregnant on bed rest you’d get lots of great suggestions!

What a nice friend she has in you 🙂

A sweet little basket of really nice teas.  Or if you are okay with a little splurge, a kindle so she can read effortlessly in bed.

Is she a gamer? (Maybe a secret gamer?) Gaming stuff, even just gift certificates, would make me very happy, especially for DS!

I’m gonna add my voice to the e-reader/e-reader gift certificate and/or delivery of an AWESOME healthy meal from a restaurant near her. If I were on bed rest I’d be SO sick of whatever I was eating all day every day and something really delicious from a restaurant I liked would seriously make my day!!

I suggest for your friends, because she’s probably feeling a bit crappy that you organise for a home visit from her hairdresser, manicurist, pedicurist, facialist or something.  Also I think she would appreciate, if you live close by a slumber party style day with you and a few other friends.  Vegging out, watching movies, gossiping etc…  along with a bed picnic.

If she has a DS or 3DS or other handheld, I’d suggest getting games for it. 🙂

@Sea_bass:  Does she like computer games? Even if she is not into battle or fighting simulations, maybe something like the Sims would be fun and take up a lot of time. I could spend hours playing that.

Books, especially a long series like Harry Potter. Or get her the best selling books from NYTimes best seller list, from this year or previous years?

Puzzle books like sudoku or a book of tougher crossword puzzles.
