Sorry for long post, but I need help! I hope you are all well and staying safe <3 I first of all want to say that I know there are much bigger things going on in the world right now, and that my stress about this is likely a result of planning a wedding during pandemic and just the overall climate. However, here I go.
I am very picky. FH told me to pick out a ring setting and he would pay for it, and I already had a VS1 D color .50 carat princess diamond in my possession. I don’t mind smaller stones and I didn’t want to spend a truckload of money, so I went to this very reputable, high-end jewelry store with good prices, deliberated over the setting, took lots of photos and also posted on here (where people warned me about thin bands and I got lots of different responses). I then waited for their sale. I couldn’t imagine putting my square diamond in the cushion halos (which I really liked) bc all the ones at the store were round and I had little experience with how a cushion would look w a princess cut, and I liked the sort of vintage look of the more squared one, that I picked (well, on THAT ring, not so much my new one because it looks a little “geometric”, but maybe that’s just me?)
Prior to choosing, I really liked the 1.6mm band but was terrified it would break (this jeweler does free lifetime repairs, w no six month mandatory check, and said this is unlikely to be an issue but they will fix). However, when I saw the 1.6mm ring it was on a 1.5 carat diamond model, and when smaller I didn’t like the way the edges looked (but they’re not too bad?). Also the band sort of looked clunky with my finger (it’s a 1.92mm thicknesss, and I think I am approx a 4.5 finger size for reference). Additionally, I have skinny fingers with big knuckles so I am never sure which ring will fit right on me. I eventually became very stressed about this. The jeweler finally came back and said they’d reset it in a thinner pave band (like 1.4, too thin I think, but I can choose) and can change it to a cushion (I think the cusion is almost the same except without the harsh edges?) This will be about $1,000, and I only spent $1400 on the setting (I guess I am thinking since I already had a diamond I can put out a little more, but I am mad at myself!)
Final question: Is this band a little clunky on me (be honest 🙂 and do you think changing it to a thinner band setting in a slightly rounder shape will make a difference, or am I totally just having ring dysmorphia? To me, even from far away, the band looks too thick. Maybe that’s because of the diamond’s smaller size or bc thin bands are all I see these days, and I adore them. I feel awful about the money but I keep bursting into tears when I see it, and also bc it’s a little thick and uncomfortable. Due to aforementioned sizing issues, it does spin a bit (I have had it sized since some of these photos and it’s still clunkeriffic). I posted before and people warned me against thin bands for everyday use but my jeweler said it really depends on how they’re made, plus it’s a more petite diamond. PHOTOS of your half carat halo rings are helpful! I’ll post several of mine bc they look so different depeding on the light. THanks a lot, bees!. I wanted my dream ring at a reasonable price and I am just feeling like I should fix it, but don’t want to make the same mistake or waste money. 🙂 Thanks
