@MissMalibu:  try kayak.com – it allows you to search multiple airlines at once. also, if by any chance your Fiance is a student, try sta.com and studentuniverse.org. good luck and sorry about your FI’s uncle!

Try nearby airports as well — John Wayne in Orange County (SNA), Long Beach, Burbank, etc. Might find cheaper flights. I always end up getting tickets from Travelocity/Orbitz/Expedia, but try Virgin, Southwest etc coz I don’t think their airlines are part of those sites. Good luck and all the best to you, your Fiance and his family!

@MissMalibu:  Delta has a bereavement and imminent death fare that you have to call for.  I used it when my dad was dying this past June – and actually made it to his bedside 5 hours before he died.

Basically it was like 40% off today’s price and the return date is open ended.  It costs $50 to book this over the phone, however, with a death certificate you can get that $50 returned later on.  I think I paid $600 or something.

Also compare that with

Hotwire

SideStep

Kayak

Orbitz

Travelocity

CheapTickets

Expedia

Southwest

Jetblue

I found some well under $800 on Expedia.  They might not be direct flights or into LAX, though.
